Unknown environment
invisible to detection, observation
a hunter prowls.

There might be an alien.
The Alien may fight.
I don’t want to become a victim.
I will be cautious.

The Rally Cap

One of the interesting things about baseball is how it makes you superstitious. Or there are many superstitions. One of the ones that I like that fans often do is the rally cap. You do it when your team is losing and you want them to score more runs. So what you do is turn your hat inside out and wear it. And there you have it. A rally cap. Supposedly, it is supposed to help your team win. I wonder if they do this in Japan?

Swaying palm fronds–
countless leagues removed
a monstrous storm.

NACOS tips for writing English haiku–

Make sure you consider the juxtaposition in your haiku before writing it. The idea of taking two things and putting them in the same context for the reader to ponder is integral to this form of poetry. In traditional Japanese haiku, there is always a “cutting word” that shows where the break lies between the two juxtaposed halves. In the above poem, note the “–“. This punctuation is commonly used by authors of haiku in foreign languages in place of the cutting word.

Shallow noise intrudes
hungry harsh emptiness of space
clamor becomes roar.

Busy Weight Loss Season

Our weight loss business normally slows down during the winter, but this year we have been very busy. We have new customers everyday. We are so busy I cannot even keep track of all our customers. The fun thing about working from home is I dont need to go into the office. The bad thing is that I never leave my office. Everything I cook at home gets posted online and our customers can ask how I cooked it and how they can implement it into their mealplans. Giving advise to help someone reach their goals is very motivating and fulfilling.

Tsunami Scare

On Saturday, October 27th, Hawaii had another Tsunami scare that fortunately turned out to be nothing more than an exercise in evacuation procedures. Around 7:00 in the evening my wife and I were watching NGN 2 and there was an announcement that there had been an earthquake on the mainland and that Hawaii could possibly be affected by a Tsunami. My wife and I were very surprised that none of the English channels caught it. Almost an hour later, it was finally on the news but the announcer said that Hawaii would not be affected. A few minutes later the sirens went off and we checked the news again and apparently it was decided that Hawaii would be hit by the first wave at 10:30 p.m. I immediately got a phone call from my Supervisor asking me to come in to work as we had to get our 4 boats and 3 submarines at least 4 miles out from Waikiki in case we did get hit by a tsunami. The traffic was amazing! Luckily I rode my bike and I was able to make great time because none of the cars were moving!
Once I got to Pier 40 I immediately was put on one of the submarines and we immediately left the dock. There was myself on the Submarine and 2 crew on the tug boat pulling the submarine. The view was fantastic! Lots of boats trying to get out of the harbor and many police and harbor police cars going back and forth which provided an amazing light show! I was so upset that I didn’t bring a camera! We got out in very good time and I sat on the submarine watching all of the lights. Fortunately, there was no tsunami and we had to wait for the all clear to return to the harbor which came around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday. It turned out to be a very long night and I was very happy that I didn’t have to work the next day as I felt like I had Jet lag!

Halloween

Yesterday I discovered that in Hawaii they love to celebrate Halloween! I went to Waikiki and there were so many people squeezed together that you couldn’t move. In fact, traffic came to a stop! Why so many people? Because they all got dressed up in costumes and went out to have their pictures taken. The costumes were all very elaborate and life like. I think some people must have prepared for a long time. It was fun to see so much creativity and imagination on display!
