Rules

I have noticed that Japanese people really like to follow rules. Sometimes, it almost seems to be excessive. For example, today while walking down the street, I found myself at a four way intersection. I had to wait for the light to change before crossing the road. When the light changed, I started to cross. However, it was very strange because no one else was crossing with me. Suddenly, I thought maybe I made a mistake! As it turned out, all of the other people waiting to cross at that time were Japanese except for me. I realized that although the traffic light changed they were all waiting for the red hand to change to a white walking symbol. So, just because no one had hit the pedestrian button to make the sign change, everyone was refusing, or afraid, to cross the street, despite the fact that it was entirely legal. I hope that no one was in a hurry! In any case, I made it across and now have an interesting story to tell about the Japanese way of thinking.

hit a baseball

I loved to play baseball as a kid and even played for a little league team. Problem is, during those games I was never any good at it. I couldn’t hit a ball to save my life. So, the one time I did hit a ball, it was a line drive to the third baseman for an out. My father still prepared a celebration for me at home, a special lunch congratulating me on the fact that I at least made contact with the ball. Sounds mean, but I was very grateful.

Garrett’s Brazilian Adventure 1: Introduction

Welcome to my new blog!!! I should be updating every 2-3 days on what’s happening in my life on the island of Florianopolis (where I live in southern Brasil). Interesting things always happen around here so I think that it would be a good idea to share my experiences and such.

I love film making, and the sad thing about my obsession for this hobby is that I’ve kind of procrastinated and haven’t actually made any films or short videos. So what I have decided to do is to make my own movie. This will be a really good thing to do while I’m here because it should be interesting to make a film here in Brazil. I can just imagine it; a cool action movie with everyone speaking Portuguese and having a main character who spews out cheesy one liners. It’ll be hilarious.

So that’s what I’ll be doing for my blog, but it won’t just be that, I’ll also be updating everyone on what’s happening in my life (school, etc.). But the film making will be one of the main parts of my blog. OK, I’ll see you at the next blog.

当該論文のタイトルは「Health recovery Effect of Physiological Magnetic Stimulation on Elder person’s Immunity Source Area with Transition of ECG and EEG(心電図と脳波の変動にみる老齢者の免疫巣の磁性刺激による健康回復効果」、著者は K. Mohri et al.(写真)です。

Because I sit at a desk all day, I gained 15 pounds during the first 3 months of working at the bank. At first I wasn’t sure why that happened. Then I realized I was eating more Mc Donald’s, candy, and other junk foods while doing less physical activity. So I decided to take action. Starting in September, I started exercising 5 to 6 days a week. It doesn’t matter whether it’s surfing, swimming, jogging, or going to the gym. So far, I’m down 10 pounds in 2 months and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

NACOS tips for writing English haiku–

The way of the haiku is not to state things outright, but to hint at them. Some of the best haiku, in fact, leave you wondering at their purpose – not to confuse you, but to lead you to your own thoughts and meditations. I’m afraid today’s submission falls a little short of this ideal, as you can definitely tell what I’m talking about given that today is election day. However, notice that instead of telling you what my thoughts are, I pick out some poignant images to present.
