My Brother’s Wedding

When my brother got married he chose me as his best man. I was honored. But, I was also intending on getting ridiculously drunk at the reception. There was one problem though. I didn’t eat all day. And the problem with that is, I can only do one or the other, not both at the same time. So, when the food was served I scarfed it all down and got seconds. When I had two beers I became bloated and ended up spending most of the reception outside walking laps around the parking lot. 😦

My Shocking Experience

About 3 days after I arrived in Florianopolis, when my mom, my sister, and I were still staying in a hotel, I plugged in my Xbox 360 and my Gaems G155 (a portable xbox 360, tv, and case I got for my birthday). And I wasn’t aware that the voltage here in Southern Brazil is 220v instead of the 110v in Rio (same as in the U.S.), and once I turned my Xbox on, it ran for about a minute and then we heard a pop. I didn’t realize that it came from the Xbox until I noticed that it had turned off. So I tried to turn it back on but nothing happened, so next I picked up the power brick (part of the cable) and sure enough, it smelled like when you fire a cap gun. I was glad there was nothing wrong with the actual Xbox but then I had to buy replacements. A couple days later, we went to the center of Florianopolis and found out that we had to buy a ginormous transformer but they said that they could replace the fuse in the power brick instead of buying a whole new one, so we did that.
So now I am living happily again with my Xbox 360. But I think that the 220v thing is kind of stupid and I still don’t know why they have it like that, and they should have in at 110v because i’m pretty sure that 220v uses more power.

Just standing here
is there a fee for that?
We can’t escape.

Jena from Kansas 8/27

Our Word in Action Ministry that feeds meals 5 nights every week had been low on food. We were completely out of canned fruit and low on hamburger meat. Even though we had ordered some (only allowed to order once a month from this supplier) of these items, they were out and said it would be at least a month before we could order. Their truck delivered to us Thurs. the 23rd and guess what? To our amazement and delight, our food included canned fruit and way more hamburger than we expected. God answers prayer. The next day we had another food truck deliver to us with many pallets. Between the 2 days, we received 11,000 lbs. of food. We’ll use it quite fast too. Last week we served 1,214 meals. After the second truck left, we gave out sweet potatoes, pop or tea, and bread to any who passed by (no guidelines). We have these giveaways once a month when we can afford it. It is very fun. Around 125 families received food from us that evening which went to 404 persons. Our large van that we use to haul food had been at the transmission shop and we were able to get it out on Fri. as well. That’s all the major news for now.

Princess Pei Pei

Last month I adopted a guinea pig from the Honolulu Humane Society. I later found out my co-worker also had a guinea pig named Bun Bun. So now I take her to the beach with me on Saturdays so they can play while I`m working. After work we go to the bar; where I enjoy a few cold beers and she enjoys free carrots and coasters.

Early morning at the beach

I had a plan for a long time to get up early and go to Ala Moana beach park. Last weekend, I finally succeeded in waking up and jogging to the beach. On Magic Island, there were many jogging trails to choose from. I spent time getting some good exercise, breathing the fresh ocean air, and admiring the beautiful scenery. When I got tired, I went for a swim in the ocean. I was surprised that it got deep very quickly. After cooling off in the water, I ran back home. It was a good way to start the day.
