Favorite Pantera Shirt

I literally have enough Pantera t-shirts to wear for everyday of the month if I wanted to. I started collecting them them about a decade ago. Probably around 2002 or 03. However, I lost one along the way. It was my favorite one too. I have no idea where I lost it. Probably at some wild party years ago. Eh, it’s not to big of a deal. Like I said, I got a lot more. 🙂

waves and clouds creep near
ringing silence shatters.

Jena from Kansas 9/4

Things happen so fast in the life of us Fellers that I can’t even remember what I did last week. I do remember that we got enough rain to perk up the soybean crops for some of the farmers in this corner of our state. I just know that last week was to be the 7 yr. recognition of Hurrican Katrina down in New Orleans and they were unable to celebrate due to Hurricane Isaac. The flooding caused many to be out of power or forced to move into shelters. As a result, my husband and I decided to take a road trip and take hygiene supplies and some dried good foods down there. We left at 5:00 a.m. Fri. and got into a hard-to-find motel after 10:00 that night. Sat. morning we found a church that was coordinating with another ministry to run a shelter at an elementary school. We dropped off 250 hygiene bags that included shampoo, soap, razors, deoderant, and the like. We arrived home at 2:30 a.m. Sun., had a short night’s rest and got up for Steve to preach at church. I’ll try to send pictures later because I think we might be able to with Steve’s newer phone.

Picking Salt with my Grandpa

Every summer my cousins and I scrape salt off the rocks in Molokai. This has become a tradition with my grandfather. He taught us how to look for the right salt and the best ponds to gather the salt. This picture is my grandfather and my cousin looking for salt on the reef, in the tidepools. We hiked over 2 miles to get to these tide pools, and we each packed over 100 lbs of salt in our back packs back to our truck. It is a very difficult hike with many rocks to climb. It took us a full day. At the end of the day my back was tired and I had sunburn all over my neck and arms. Next time I need to remember to bring a long sleeved shirt. I look forward to these adventures with my grandfather every year.

Yesterday

Yesterday I met a man from Japan. He came to Hawaii for work and brought his wife and two children with him. The children go to high school but it is hard because they do not speak English. The wife will stay at home and plans to spend time arranging the house. They showed me the Iphone application Google Translate and said it helps them a lot to survive in America. I was glad that despite the difficulty of moving to a new place they still like it here. They said life in Japan is always busy but here in Hawaii they can relax and forget about their worries.

American History

We took a family trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania last weekend.  The city has very rich history.  It was in Independence Hall right there in Philadelphia where America’s Declaration of Independence from England was signed and where the details of the U.S. Constitution were worked out.  We learned that Philadelphia also served as the nation’s capital at one point.  We saw the Liberty Bell too with it’s crack and all as well as where Benjamin Franklin was buried.  We ate the famous Philly cheesesteak.  It was nothing more than meat, onions, and cheese on a long piece of white bread, but it was delicious.  As a bonus, we also had the chance to see the Rocky statue and climbed the stairs of the Philadelphia Art Museum where Rocky ran up, pumped his arms in the air, and shouted the famous “Adrian.”  We didn’t do the Rocky pose, but many people around us did.  It was funny to see.
