彫刻家向山さんの家で、チームナコスのリハーサルをしました。
３時間半みっちり練習をして心地よい響きになってきました。
向山さんと賀来さんは熱心に練習を重ね素晴らしい進歩です。
土曜日はコンサート、１時間の演奏を頑張りましょう。
We rehearsed at Mukoyama-san’s house. Our concert will be on Saturday.

Melさんの善行訪問

ハワイからナコスファミリーのメルさんが善行に来ました。
メルさんは温かい雰囲気の善行の町を一度で好きになりました。
また、「サロンゆう」の小林さんと「蝉丸」の馬場さんと会って、
日本語で楽しくいろいろな話をしました。
今日の善行富士もきれいでした。
Mel-san came to Zengyo from Hawaii to see us. He also met Kobayashi-san and Baba-san, and they talked in Japanese. We had an enjoyable time.

Haiku Poem – 和太鼓

Japan club
drum storm erupts
Iowa stirs

和太鼓や嵐のように叩き出す
わだいこや　あらしのように　たたきだす

Last spring, I saw a Japanese drum performance. The Japan America Society of Iowa invited the club from Grinnell college to play. The club had both Japanese and American students. One girl from Japan had played since she was little and was incredible. Then, some members of the Japan America Society also played. It was a chance for many people to see another part of Japanese culture. Also, it gave the club members a chance to practice what they had learned.

　今年の春、私は和太鼓の演奏を見ました。アイオワ日米協会が、グリネル大学の太鼓クラブに演奏を依頼しました。そのクラブには、日本人とアメリカ人の学生がいました。日本からの一人の女子留学生は、小さい頃から太鼓を習っていて、信じられないほど素晴らしい演奏を見せてくれました。その後、日米協会のメンバーも何人か、演奏に参加しました。このイベントは、多くの人にとって、日本文化の新たな部分を見る機会となりました。また、太鼓クラブのメンバーにとっても、日頃、学んだことを実践する機会を与えることになりました。

Haiku Poem – 鯨の再訪

only a glimpse
sightings grow every day
whales are back

探してる潮吹き見える鯨さん
さがしてる　しおふきみえる　くじらさん

Just a few days ago I saw my first whales of the season. About 500 meters away from the boat a Mother and her calf were swimming along the surface and I saw their spouts and also watched both of them swim on the surface for about 30 seconds. Other friends of mine have also already seen them. Even though the whales have returned to Hawaii it is still too soon on Oahu for the whale watching tours to start. The tours start usually on January 1st since the whales are seen regularly off of Waikiki. February and March are the peak months for whales in Oahu. Since the major whale watching tour companies offer a guarantee to see whales the tours start in January.

　つい先日、今シーズン、最初の鯨を見ました。船から約５００メートル離れたところで、母と子が水面で潮吹きをし、３０秒位、海面を泳ぐのを見ました。友人も、すでに見ていました。鯨がハワイに戻ったとしても、オアフ島でのホエールウォッチングツアーは、まだ早すぎます。ツアーは、大抵、ワイキキ沖で鯨を頻繁に見ることのできる、１月1日に始めます。２月と３月は、オアフ島の鯨のピーク月です。ホエールウォッチングツアーを運営している主な会社は、ツアーで鯨を見ることを１００％保証していますから、ツアーは、１月に始めます。

太田さんのグループ展

中央林間のギャラリーに会いに行ってきました。
作品を見ながら楽しい時間を過ごしました。
We were invited by Ota-san for a joint exhibition of painters. We had a good conversation while watching their art works.

音楽の楽しみ

１２月１４日のコンサートのために、
賀来さんのリコーダーとヴァイオリンの二重奏を練習しました。
練習場所は鵠沼橘市民の家、暖かく落ち着いてできました。
ピアノの鍵盤（ド）が動かないので直していただけると嬉しいです。
今日の善行富士もきれいでした。

Haiku Poem – 感謝祭

感謝祭ターキーばかり寿司が良い
かんしゃさい　ターキーばかり　すしがよい

This year Thanksgiving will be on the 28th of November so it is coming up very fast. Any store you go into has Thanksgiving specials on their food items.The typical advertising has a family sitting at the table with a perfectly made turkey and all of the other Thanksgiving foods close by. I have never had a turkey like that! I was the only one in my family that liked turkey so my Mom would make a turkey leg for me on Thanksgiving. My wife also does not like turkey so we have never had it together. I actually would much rather have fish than turkey so this year for Thanksgiving we are going to a really nice sushi restaurant!

　今年の感謝祭、サンクスギビング・デーは、１１月２８日です。すぐにやって来ます。どの店に行っても、感謝祭の為の特別料理が並べられています。典型的な感謝祭の広告は、テーブルに座る家族の前に、七面鳥の丸焼きと感謝祭の為の料理が添えられていると云うものです。しかし私は、そのような感謝祭の食事の経験はありません。子供の頃、家族の中で七面鳥が好きなのは、私だけだったので、母は感謝祭で私の為に、ターキーレッグを作ってくれました。私の妻も七面鳥は好きではありません。ですから、一緒に食べたことはありません。実は、私は、魚の方が好きですから、今年の感謝祭には、すごくいい寿司レストランに行くつもりです。
