Collaborative Haiku Poem – 庭仕事

buds on trees
garden is ready for new season
look askance at virus

新芽ふくウイルス横目に庭仕事
しんめ ふく　ウイルス よこめ に　にわしごと

While we are occupied in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, plants continue growing. With the arrival of Spring, tree branches are full of buds, ready to bloom. I hear that cherries are full bloom in Japan. It appears that coronavirus or not, the gardens must be ready.

　植物は我々人間がコロナウイルス危機に構っている間も成長を続け、春の訪れとともに木々の枝は新芽をつけ開花も間も無くです（日本では既に桜は満開との事）。室内にこもってばかりはいられません。枯れ枝を始末し、植え床には新しい土を足すなどこれから忙しくなります。

afternoon walk
blooming flowers paint the sky

花の虹散歩の楽しさ良い隔離
はな の にじ　さんぽ の たのしさ　よい かくり

While in quarantine one of the things that I like to do is take a walk in the afternoon. Since the quarantine there are not very many cars out and it is fun to walk along roads that I have not been to except by car or bike. One of the nice things that I have noticed are some of the different types of flowers that are blooming in the Spring time. When I lived in Japan I really enjoyed seeing the Cherry blossoms so it is kind of the same thing on our walks. We get to see a lot of nice blooming plants and flowers that we wouldn’t have normally seen.

　コロナウイルス対策の為の自宅待機の間に、私がしたいことの一つは、午後の散歩です。現在、町に車はあまり走っていません。そんな時、車や自転車でしか行ったことのない道を歩くのは楽しいことです。散歩をしていて、春に咲く、さまざまな花に気づきました。私が日本に住んでいた時、妻と一緒に、お花見に出かけるのが楽しみでした。今、その時と同じような気持ちで散歩を楽しんでいます。普段、見過ごしていた素敵な草花を目にすることができます。

hot air
work table crosses
papers scatter

暖房機机に吹いて書類飛ぶ
だんぼうき　つくえ に ふいて　しょるい とぶ

These days I am working from home. I have to use the dinner table as a desk. This means that I put lots of things like papers, pencils, a computer and even a lamp on the table. There is not a lot of room to work. I frequently leave everything on the table so that I can quickly start working again. I discovered that this is dangerous. Last night, I heard a sound and was startled. It went away so I went back to bed. This morning, I woke up and found papers all over the floor. Unfortunately, the furnace turned on and blew everything off the table. That will teach me to clean up and not leave a mess.

　最近、私は、家で仕事をしています。私は、食卓を机として使わなければなりません。と言うことは、つまり、私は、紙や鉛筆、コンピューター、そして、照明器具さえテーブルの上に置くことになります。仕事をする為には、十分な大きさではありません。私は、すぐに再び、仕事ができるように、テーブルの上に、すべてを置きっぱなしにすることが、しばしばです。これは危険なことだと気づきました。昨夜、音がしたので、びっくりして目を覚ましました。しかし、すぐに消えたので、再び寝ました。今朝、目を覚ますと、床一面に書類が散らばっていました。あいにく、暖房機がついていたので、机の上の書類が、すべて吹き飛ばされました。それは、私に、片付けることの大切さと、散らかった状態を、そのままにしてはいけないという教訓を与えてくれました。

empty beaches
call to the wind and sky
only silence

誰もいない寂しい月日いつ終わる
だれ も いない　さびしい つきひ　いつ おわる

With the quarantine in that is currently going on in Hawaii there are of course very few tourists, if any, on our islands. Going through Waikiki the only people you will see are people who live here going shopping for essential items or maybe going surfing, swimming or out for a run or a walk. I had to go into Waikiki a few days ago and could not believe how empty it was! The beaches are closed but it is OK to go into the water for swimming or surfing so the beaches are completely empty. It will be like this probably through May.

　現在、ハワイで強制隔離が行われている為、当然のことながら、ハワイには、観光客はほとんどいません。ワイキキを行き来する人は、地元の人だけで、必需品の買い出しをしたり、サーフィンや水泳、ランニング、散歩に出かけたりする人たちです。数日前、私は、ワイキキに行く用事が出来ました。信じ難いことですが、ワイキキが空っぽの状態だったので驚きました。ビーチは、閉鎖されています。しかし、泳いだり、サーフィンしたりすることは出来るのに、人っ子一人いない状態でした。この状態は、おそらく五月まで続きます。
