Konichiwa Yukiyo

Hello again. Thank you for giving my dog such a nice compliment. Do you have any pets?

I’m just getting use to blogging and posting so I just entered another blog. Please read it if you can.

I’m glad to see that one of your hobbies is reading. One of my hobbies is writing. Maybe you can read some of my work and let me know what you think. I also like to play drums, even though I’m not that good yet, and I like to play the congo. I would like to learn how to play piano and the Saxaphone. I like movies, too. What is your favorite medical movie? My favorite movie is, “Gladiator”. I also like to watch Japanese movies and Korean drama. One of my favorite Japanese actors is Ken Takahara. Do you have a favorite actor or actress?

My Portrait

Hello all,

My name is Cedric. I live in Hawaii where I work as a CNA. I work with in-house patients as well as hospitalized patients. I’m also a writer. Now-a-days,I write short stories, mostly drama and some comedy. I plan to begin writing scripts at some poiint because I love movies and would someday like to see my writing on the Big Screen. I’m also attempting to write a novel based on relationships.

I’m a simple guy who likes to travel. I’ve been to Japan, China, Tahiti, Bermuda, Canada and pretty much all over the United States. So far, Japan is my favorite. I visited Osaka in 2005. I lived there with a family for two months, helping to build a playground, go out in the community to help feed the homeless and to get to know as many people as I could. I went to Kyoto with a friend and actually saw a television drama being filmed. It was so exciting! I really liked that fact that one of the actors, after undergoing several takes for a scene, spent some time talking to my friend and I about his likes and dislikes about the scene and how hot he was in character. He wore a lot of clothes for this scene so I could imagine he was uncomfortable. I thought every scene went well though. Would you believe, not too far away from the studio, Tom Hanks, an American actor, was having tea at a cafe. It would have been nice to meet him as well.

I really enjoy the Japanese culture. I think citizens in Japan are really nice and openhearted. Whenever I got lost, no matter where I was in Osaka, I was always helped by a pedestrian either at the train station or walking along a sidewalk. I was always greeted with a smile. Making friends was very easy which made me feel right at home. To tell the truth, I didn’t want to leave Japan and come back to Hawaii. Hopefully soon I will be able to visit Japan again; which is the reason I am trying to learn the Japanese language now. I can understand very little Japanese, but I know that someday I will speak it fluently.

I also have to say, I love Japanese food. i went to a Sushi bar at least two times a week. I like the way the food is portioned in small dishes. They keep me from over eating. I also think Japanese fashion is pretty cool. And the cars I saw there, wow, I was impressed. One car that I would like to own at some point in my life is a Lexus. My friend and I went to a Lexus dealer and I must have sat in every car in the showroom. I wanted to test drive one, but I didn’t have an international license. Next time I will and I will drive a Lexus. I will also try a hot spring and go to Mt. Fuji. I didn’t have much time on my last visit to do this so they will be on the top of my list next time. Maybe I’ll even fly first class, too: -)

Well, I’d better stop here. I know this must be too long by now. Hey, check out my next blog, it should be posted in the near future. Sayonara for now.

Today’s yoji jukugo is icchihankai. It refers to someone having insufficient knowledge of a subject, or to someone doing or saying something without fully understanding it. For example, you could say “during the discussion, he was throwing around icchihankai technical terms.”

A very common case of icchihankai in the US is the word ironic. People love to use this word, but they don’t really understand what it means. The usage has widened to such an extent that the real meaning has almost disappeared, and even educated people may not be able to explain it.

7th Lesson

Today I was much more focused. I started the lesson writing a new story that Michiko will eventually translate into Japanese for me. Then we reviewed some of the basic questions, focusing on my intonation and length of each sound. Today I learned a new word しゅっしん or 出身. It means “where from”. We reviewed the first and last paragraph of my self-portrait and then began to work on the 2nd paragraph. I am slowly understanding sentence structure. I am able to recognize particles and beginning to become more familiar with specific hiragana characters.

A little about myself

I was born and raised half of my childhood years on the Big Island of Hawaii. I have always considered this place to be my home. Here I developed a love of island living; enjoying the outdoors, hiking, swimming, diving, and surfing. I also developed a deep appreciation of the flora and fauna on land and in the ocean.

One of my hobbies are lei making and cooking/baking. I like to hike into the mountains to pick “liko” for haku leis or wreaths for family & friends. I have learned to make various dishes from locally grown products. Lilikoi butter and “ulu” breadfruit doughnuts are my favorites. I hope that I can continue these hobbies when I move to Okinawa.

I also enjoy to sew small projects. I hope to meet an elderly seamstress in Okinawa, who can mentor me in alterations. Scuba diving is another hobbie I’d like to renew. I received my certification while in college, but haven’t done much diving since. I look forward to all the new experiences awaiting me in Okinawa! I feel the most free when I’m outdoors enjoying God’s creation & sharing these moments with others!

(What a difference one year makes!
