First Lesson

Today, I had my first lesson with Michiko. We studied, using Hiragana and Katakana, where I was born and where I lived beforre I came to Hawaii. I was born in North Carolina and spent a good amount of my life in Boston…Go Patriot’s!

I was a bit stumped with the, “R”, sounds so I will study more on how to speaking them. All of the other pronunciation I guess I verbalized pretty well. I’m looking forward to my next lesson.

Bar-B-Que Festival

This weekend the county hosted a bar-b-que festival at the fairgrounds. The festivities started early Saturday morning and were expected to go through Sunday evening. We went on Saturday. I had something to do for work Saturday morning. Once I was done, the family and I headed to the festival. There was plenty of free parking, and we even received a discount on our tickets to enter. We encountered so many people at the entrance. The event was outdoors, and it was a very nice day to be outside. The weather was sunny with a small breeze that made it cool enough to wear a light sweater. We made our way through the crowd looking at all the vendors and trying to decide what to eat. The food all smelled tasty. The prices seemed a little high for what was being offered, but maybe we were just comparing it to Texas bar-b-que because Maryland is more famous for its crab than bar-b-que. We finally grabbed something to eat and sat on the grass to listen to a live band. Aleria had fun dancing to the music and running around chasing a balloon. We had fun watching her. We stayed a little while longer before returning home.

Dear Cedric.

Hello,Cedric.

Michiko-san told me you can’t read comments on iPhone.
So I am writing an answer for you, on this blog.

I also had a dog, her name was Fan, she was so cute.
But she past away, two years ago.
I still miss her,so much..
All of my family miss her, so we can not have another dog.

My favorite movie is … I can not decide..!!
But I watched ‘Good Will Hunting’, recently, I was moved.
And I got to like Matt Damon.(^ ^)
My favorite serial TV drama is ‘Bones’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.
These medical or scientific drama are exciting for me, because I work at an emergency hospital.

I have a question.
What kind of story , you write?

Do you understand my English?( ´ ▽ ` )

10: May Day Festival:)

May Day Festival

Today’s yoji jukugo is kishikaisei. It refers to cases when everything is desperate, but one is able to overcome the circumstances and get back on track. When you fall into crisis, a kishikaisei strategy is necessary.

One might apply this term to companies – for example, in the videogame industry. Fifteen years ago, Sony entered the industry, followed by Microsoft five years later. These two large companies had great success at winning over customers. So, Sega and Nintendo, who were the main companies until then, had to think of kishikaisei strategies. While Nintendo succeeded, Sega has now become a smaller company.

8th Lesson

Today Michiko & I practiced answering various questions. I am feeling more comfortable with understanding how to answer by including various particles and ending with です。We then reviewed my story in entirety several times. Michiko stated that I am sounding more “natural” as I speak. She then asked me questions about my story & I was able to answer them in Japanese. Finally, we practiced counting minutes and hours in order to tell time, as well as saying the days of the week. I need to memorize those names for next time.

Fumigation

Up to this point in my life my two worse things were moving and doing my taxes. Now taxes have fallen to third place and in second place is having your house fumigated or “tented”. Last week my land lord had the house that I rent fumigated. The house was built in 1936 and had already been pretty well attacked by termites but my land lord decided to do it anyway. My wife and I had to move out all the items that were either consumables or would go into one’s mouth, like toothpaste. We were given special bags by the fumigation company but there were not nearly enough. Finding someplace to store the food that needed refrigeration was very hard but we managed. We also had to book a spot at the pet hospital for our dogs and cats. Finally, we ended up booking a hotel room for the night and after days for moving all of our stuff and the outside plants we were ready to go. The day arrived and after about an hour of work the fumigation company had to cancel because the house next to ours, also being fumigated, had bees! It is a state law that there can be no fumigation if there are bees because it makes them go crazy! The only insect it actually kills are termites and mice. So we had to re-schedule everything and two days later the fumigation was done. My wife was very sad because of all the beautiful plants that were killed on the side of the house. After one week there is still a lingering smell of the gas. If I ever can have my own house it will be made up entirely of stone!
