この春、園芸店でずらりと並んだ苗類の中にパイナップルセージをみつけました。たまたま、今年はタイムやローズマリーなど、これまで鉢植えで育てていたハーブ類全てを地植えに替える事にしていましたので、パイナップルセージも家の東側の地面に植え付けました。夏中ぐんぐん育ち１メートルを超えたときは、そのように大きいハーブにはこれまでお目にかかった経験が無いので、これ、はたしてパイナップルセージ？と疑ったほどでした。
気候が涼しくなリ、木の葉が散り始め野菜類の実もつかなくなった頃、パイナップルセージが深紅の花をつけ出しました。誠に良いタイミングで庭先が突然ぱっと明るくなりました。うれしい驚きをくれたパイナップルセージ、気に入りました。
ちなみに、若い葉は名前のごとくパイナップルの味がします。パイナップルジェリーも作りました。
不思議にも、花が咲くとパイナップルの味がしなくなります。

Anyone who knows only the individual meanings of the kanji in this yoji jukugo would assume it describes someone who is dazed and confused. The actual meaning is related, but different enough to require some explaining. Although the literal meaning of 夢中 (むちゅう) is dazed or in a trance, the word is commonly used to refer to someone who is really engrossed in something, not someone who is confused. 無我夢中 (むがむちゅう) is simply a strengthening of this meaning. The person referenced by this word is so engrossed in an activity that they have forgotten themselves, and by extension everything around them that doesn’t pertain to what they’re doing.

今日は、サムさんご夫妻が遊びにいらっしゃいました。
「夕焼けのかかった美しい富士山を一緒に見ましょう」と、お誘いしたのです。
朝からお昼過ぎまで晴天でしたのに、次第に灰色の空に変わりました。
富士山が姿を現わさず残念でした！
それでも、みんな元気いっぱいに、近所の森を散歩しました。
後ろ向けにジョギングをしています。
日中は暖かいお天気でしたが、太陽が隠れると肌寒いです！
サムッ！と、演技過剰の私。
この森は常緑樹です。森を抜けたところです。おすましの３人！
The roll out of the new health care system has gotten a lot of supporters and a lot of critics. But before there was the Affordable Health Care Act there was Medicare and Medicad. Medicare is a type of health insurance for seniors while Medicad is suppose to provide health insurance for those with low income. Before the new health insurance went into effect, people who didn’t fit into either for the two categories above, meaning they were not over 65 or they made too much money to be considered low income (but not enough to afford insurance) had to rely on other means to get seen by a doctor. I know people who would wait until they were really sick and then just go to the emergency room because hospitals can’t turn patients away. Those same people would then end up with a huge medical bill which they couldn’t pay. This would force them to not pay or pay in small bits and wait until they were really really sick again and go back to the hospital. I guess the good thing about having health insurance is the preventive care it will provide to those like some of my friends and family.

ですが、ハロウィンにあまり馴染みがない私にとっては、お店に並ぶスイーツにばかり目がいってしまいます。中でも、パンプキンパイが私のお気に入りです。食欲の秋、楽しみたいと思います。:)
In the last few months My Wife and I decided to make Movie going a little more adventurous. So instead of just going to the movie theaters close to home here in Kapolei. We started going to all of the different theaters around the island. And so far I must say the one in Hawaii Kai at the Koko Marina is tops. It has a small but clean lobby. Inside the theater is a large screen and a sound system so good you feel it. But the best thing is the seating is spacious, lots of room between you and the row and front of you. So you don’t have to worry about that really tall person sitting in front of you. And if you have your significant other with you and the pesky drink holder is in the way. No problem. You can just lift it up and cuddle away. 🙂 Definitely heading there again.
A thousand years, one encounter.
The most important kanji to understand in this yoji jukugo is 遇 (ぐう), which means encounter. It usually implies happening upon something by chance. In this case, only once every thousand years would anyone happen upon whatever is being referenced. Even if that’s usually a bit of an exaggeration, any kind of 千載一遇 opportunity would cerainly be something you might never have again, and so you shouldn’t pass it up.

Since it’s close to Halloween and the pumpkins we bought at the store are going bad, Aleria and I decided to go to a local pumpkin patch to pick out another pumpkin. I figured Aleria might like walking around outside. It was her first time at a pumpkin patch. She enjoyed pulling the wagon behind her and tried to pick up pumpkins but some were very heavy. We walked around a bit before we decided on a small pumpkin that was just her size. Strangely enough we also had a chance to see some geese, ducks, and chicken. And of course, a scarecrow.
