今日は今にも雪模様になりそうな冷えた空気です。
そんな中、海さんと彩さんが遊びにやってきました。
暖かい部屋の中で、外の寒さも忘れて、
ナコスで進めているウェブを、将来に向けて広げていく為の試みをしたりして、
おしゃべりをしました。
二人は豆粒のような画面を見ながら、器用にリサーチしています。
私にとって新しいことも少しずつ前進していきます。
最後にはスカイプで、九州の幸代さんにも小さな一歩を報告しました。
みんな楽しい人達ばかりで、大笑いをしすぎて、室内で運動をしたような一日でした。

先日、横浜にあるおでん屋さんに行ってきました。このおでんの汁の仕込みには、なんと1ヶ月はかかるそうです。様々な具の味が深みのある味を出し、時間をかけてしっかりと具に染み込んでいます。特に大根は絶品です。毎冬の楽しみです。
余談ですが、おでんにも地域差があるようです。私の住んでいる神奈川県では、コンビニでおでんを買うとカラシがついてきますが、北海道では味噌がついてくるそうです。それからもう一つ。私のお気に入りのちくわぶは元々関東地区の具でほかの地区のひとには馴染みがないそうです。

Employees are often subject to difficulties within their organizations that don’t really relate to their jobs. This is surely a trait common to many different fields of work. One could certainly think of handling these situations as part of the job, but wouldn’t it be much better for me to only think about the patients I’m helping. This is what I’ve been feeling recently.
Since there are a lot of women working here at the hospital, it’s especially hard to get by.
考えたい患者さんだけ一心に
かんがえたい かんじゃさん だけ いっしん に
どんな仕事にも共通すると思いますが、組織に所属していると
仕事以外にもややこしいことがたくさんあります。
それも仕事の一つだと考えればそうですが、
純粋に患者さんのことだけで考えることができたらどんなに良いだろうと感じる今日この頃です！
特に病院は女性が多いので、うまーく渡り歩くのは大変です。

I was typing out charts in a secluded room when I heard shouts of joy coming from the female staff in the staff room. Surely, something delicious had appeared! I ran to take a look, and saw a whole bunch of cake. This was the hospital chief’s master plan.
Instead of dinner, we all ate cake and then got back to work.

Perhaps you have had the unfortunate experience of being on a boat and getting sea sick. I always joke with my customers when I tell them I have never met anybody weaker on the water than me! I used to get very seasick. I would often be sick before the boat even left the harbor! I know that some of it was mental but fortunately for me, being on boats in rough seas finally got me to the point where it does not bother me anymore. Not only does it not bother me but I can not understand why it did in the first place! I have had a few times where I actually had the opposite happen to me. When I worked on the tug boats I would often be on the boat for 2 weeks or more at a time in very rough seas. I got so used to walking on the boat when it was rough that when the boat would pull into port and I could get out I actually got land sick! When I took a step I was used to the deck of the boat meeting my foot before I put it down but for the first 10 minutes or so I looked like I was drunk! That part would usually pass fairly quickly but it took me a while to get used to being on solid ground again and I would actually get a “queasy” feeling because there was no movement. I still have that sometimes if the seas are rough when I work on the submarines because I am usually on the water for about 10 hours. I don’t know what would happen to me if I was on the water for a month or so at a time!
Some say laughter is good medicine. Some say certain pills are good medicine. Some say ice cream, I guess because it tastes good, is good medicine.
There is a man that spent his life working hard, doing all he could do to get the job done. One day he got a headache. So he took some medicine to relieve the pain. Some days later, working hard, this young man got another headache. This time it was more severe. He soon began getting migraines and decided to see a doctor. So, the doctor gave him some medicine for the migraines that went away. But something else began to happen. He began to lose blood. This young man went to the doctors again where he passed out in the ER.
The doctor found that the young man had a bleeding ulcer that had ruptured an artery. Losing a large amount of blood, the young man almost lost his life. Fortunately he recovered. He realized that he had put so much stress on his body by working that his body gave up.
Stress kills. a good medicine against stress is to just relax. Take it easy. Take some time to enjoy life. Have a good laugh. Don’t work your body to death. You only have one.

テレビでバチカン（Vatican ローマ教皇庁）でのクリスマスイブミサを実況放送していました（とはいえ、西半球で見るので一日遅れ）。毎年この日に放映しているのでしょうが、見たのは初めてです。カトリック教の大本山たるバチカンはさすが荘厳にして豪華絢爛。しかし、実のところ、ミサの成り行きとは別の事を考えていました。目下のところ「Spanish Rome」という本を読んでいます。１５世紀末以後、スペインは西半球を征服し銀を初めとした様々な宝物を一手にします。その頃既にナポリを首都とするイタリア半島の南半分も領土としていましたが、北でローマ法王の領土と接っしているため、いざこざがたえません。そこでスペイン王はなんとか法王を味方につけんものとして現金を注ぐのですが、この金の出所が新世界（西半球）の銀であるわけです。いわば、バチカンの豪華絢爛の内装は征服した西半球の領土の原住民の犠牲の上に出来たものです。と言えば、端的に過ぎるのはわかっていますが、この本を読む前にはこの事実を知らず、バチカンの内部を見てもただ豪華だと感嘆するだけでした。
スペインについてはあまり知らないなーと感じてあれこれ本を探しているうちに、突き当たった本から得た知識が思いがけない所で現実に結びつきました。
午後、雨上がりの道を散歩していました。
小鳥も喜びの声を上げて、枝々を飛び回っていました。
上を見ると、小鳥たちが枯れ枝に花を咲かせていました。

昨日はクリスマスでしたが、遅くまで仕事をしました。
個室のパソコンでカルテを打っていると、
スタッフルームから、女性スタッフたちの歓声が聞こえました。
美味しいものが来たに違いない！！
走って見に行くと、ケーキがたくさんありました。
院長の粋な計らいです。
夕ご飯がわりにケーキを食べて、仕事に戻りました。
散歩をしている途中で、小さな赤い実に目が留まりました。
実は一つだけでした。それは緑の茂みから覗いているようでした。
