My niece is on a folklorico dance team. Folklorico is a type of folk dance that originiated from Spain but now done in different areas of Mexico. She invited me at the beginning of June to watch her perform at the Texas Folklife Festival. I got to see my niece dance is some beautiful dresses. I got to see dancers from different cultural backgrounds would be performing too. There were also many declicious foods from different countries. It was a hot day but so much fun.

　私の姪は、民族舞踊チームの一員です。姪の踊りは、もともとスペインで生まれたものですが、今では、メキシコ各地に広まりました。６月はじめ、サンアントニオ市で、テキサス フォークライフ フェスティバルが開催されました。姪は、このお祭りに私を招待してくれました。姪が、このお祭りで踊るからです。私は、美しい衣装を着て踊る姪の姿を見ることができました。文化的背景の異なるダンサーの踊りも観賞することができました。いろいろな国からやって来たおいしい食べ物もたくさんありました。暑い日でしたが、とても楽しかったです。
　　
わたし の めい は、 みんぞく ぶよう チーム の いちいん です。 めい の おどり は、 もともと スペイン で うまれた もの ですが、 いま では、 メキシコ かくち に ひろまり ました。 ろくがつ はじめ、 サンアントニオ し で、 テキサス フォークライフ フェスティバル が かいさい されました。 めい は、 この おまつり に わたし を しょうたい して くれました。 めい が、 この おまつり で おどる から です。 わたし は、 うつくしい いしょう を きて おどる めい の すがた を みる こと が できました。 ぶんか てき はいけい の ことなる ダンサー の おどり も かんしょう する こと が できました。 いろいろな くに から やってきた おいしい たべもの も たくさん ありました。 あつい ひ でしたが、 とても たのしかった です。

Just a few days ago I went to Ala Moana Shopping Center to look for some shoes for my work and even though I knew a lot of construction had been done and that it had changed since I had last been there I was so shocked to see how different it was. It had only been about 4 or 5 months since my last visit there and for the first time I actually got lost and had to look at a map of the floor that I was on to see where I was at. I didn’t recognize any of the stores. Along with all of the new stores there has also been a lot of improvements to the layout of the mall. Instead of just lots of stores next to each other, there seems to have been a lot of effort into making it a very beautiful location.

　ほんの数日前、私は仕事用の靴を探すためにアラモアナ ショッピング センターに行きました。ショッピング センターで、いろいろな工事が行われたことは知っていました。しかし、あまりの変わりようにビックリしました。最後に行ったのは、わずか４か月か５か月前なのに、私は、初めて道に迷いました。私はどこにいるのか分からなくなり、案内掲示板を見て確かめなくてはなりませんでした。どの店も知らない店ばかりでした。新しい店だけではなく、ショッピングセンターのレイアウトにも多くの改善がありました。単に店が軒を連ねると言うだけでなく、全体としての景観を良くするために大変な努力が払われたように思いました。

When I went to see airplanes in Oklahoma recently, I stopped at an Asian grocery store. The store was in Kansas City, which was on the way home. That is when I decided to buy natto. I brought the natto home and tried it for the first time. I was a little worried because I heard that natto was fermented soybeans. I thought it would smell bad and taste funny. Many people say that you love it or hate it. I had a Japanese friend give me directions for how to eat it. First, I mixed the natto. Then, I put it on top of a bowl of rice. After that, I added the sauce packets that came with the natto. Although the natto was very sticky, I thought the taste was good. I think I like natto.

　最近、私は、アジア食品店に立ち寄りました。オクラホマシティで開催された航空ショーを見に行った帰り道のことです。その店は、カンザスシティにありました。私は、納豆を買うことにしました。そして、家に持ち帰り、生まれて初めて食べました。納豆は発酵食品だと聞いていたので、少し心配でした。臭くて、変な味がすると思っていました。多くの人が、納豆は好き嫌いが分かれると言います。私は日本人の友人に食べ方を教えてもらいました。まず、納豆をかき混ぜ、ご飯の上に乗せました。そのあと、納豆に付いている調味料を加えました。納豆はネバネバしていましたが、おいしかったです。私は納豆が好きだと思います。

Since I live near a small forest, it is not unusual to see animals near my home or in my backyard. In the winter, I often see deer. However, in the summer, I frequently see rabbits in my yard. The rabbits probably wait for the warm weather to come out and play. Although the rabbits probably eat some of my flowers, I think they also eat some weeds as well. Sometimes when I walk outside, I accidentally frighten the rabbits and they run away in all directions.

　私は小さな森の近くに住んでいます。ですから、家の近くや裏庭で動物を見るのは珍しいことではありません。冬には鹿を、夏には兎を、しょっちゅう見かけます。ところで、兎は、今の時期、外に出て遊べる、暖かい天気を待っている頃だと思います。しかし、実は、私の庭の花を食べたり、雑草を食べているようです。私が家の外に出ると、時々、ギョッとして、四方八方に逃げていくことがあります。
