実は、私が、こんなことが分かる理由は、単なる好奇心でした。最初に、「醍醐味」という古典的な表現を生徒から学びました。普通の使い方は、例えば、「スペインでの留学で、私は、スペイン語を勉強する醍醐味を実感することが出来ました。」意味は、本当の面白さ。

それから、好奇心から、醍醐の意味を調べました。現代では、普通は、「ギー」と呼ばれると思います。バターを加熱して、固形部分を除いた物です。インド料理でよく使われています。昔、仏教の教えでは、醍醐の味は一番美味い味とされ、ここから、この表現が生まれました。大悟も仏教の用語ですので、この川柳の語呂合わせは面白くなると思います。大悟は、全ての坊さんの目指すもので、物事の本質・真理を悟って執着心・煩悩を断ち切り、吹っ切れた心境になることです。

写真は、婚約者のジャネルが作ったギーです。私は、それを少し口にして、「醍醐を作ることの醍醐味」ということを実感しました。では、全てに醍醐味があるとすれば、醍醐にある醍醐味がもっとも純正だろうと思いました。さあ、大悟みたいじゃないかと思って、川柳を詠み出しました。

Today I had to practice speaking my story without looking at any Romanji I had written down & focusing only the Hiragana. Since I am familiar with my story, this helps me know the rhythm & recognition of the Hiragana I am reading. Today we learned a list of adjectives…ie. hot/cold, etc. I then created sentences in Japanese using the verbs I learned in my last lesson. We had alot of fun today!!

Walking at night for me is very relaxing because of the nice cool breeze that almost always blow in Hawaii and the stars and moon are often so close that at time I feel like I can reach up and touch them.

夜のウォーキングは、私にとって、非常に落ち着くことの出来る時間です。ハワイは、ほとんどいつも涼しい風が吹いているからです。そして、お月さんと星がすごく近くに見えると、手を伸ばして触ることが出来るように感じます。

Yesterday I went to see the Western suburbs of Sydney. It was a very interesting experience. These suburbs have a definite stigma of an area not to go to so up to now I have been a victim of this propaganda and scared to go there to be honest. But yesterday when I went I was incredibly suprised. In fact the main heart of the west, Parramatta was infact a beautiful bustling city. The only difference is that it is full of migrants instead of white Australians. It really taught me a lesson about how racism and enforced the fact that I should never blindly believe hearsay and gossip without experiencing things for my self.

　昨日、シドニーの西の郊外を見に行きました。それは非常に興味深い体験でした。シドニーの西の郊外は、近づいては行けない地域として、悪い評判の定着した地域でした。ですから、実際に行ってみるまでは、正直、私も、その風評に影響されて、足を踏み入れるのを躊躇していました。しかし、昨日、行った時、本当に驚きました。私は噂に、だまされていたことに気づきました。西郊外の中心、パラマタは、本当は綺麗で活気のある町でした。唯一つの違いは、白人系オーストラリア人の代わりに、移民の人達で一杯でした。この体験は、人種差別について、本当に良い勉強になりました。実際に自分の目で確かめるまでは、決して噂だけを信じてはいけないということを思い知りました。

I’m sorry to hear about the death of Fan. I’m sure she was a special dog. Kaika is my first dog and he’s only two years old, but I sometimes find myself thinking about what it would be like if I didn’t have him. I often hope that he will live forever.

By the way, your English is very good. I hope, one day, to speak Japanese as well as you speak English.

I write short stories consisting of drama and some comedy. I’d like to write something, someday, that will really bring joy to the hearts of those who read it. What kinds of stories do you like to read?
