Another good lesson

Today’s lesson went well. I’m learning new adjectives and particles and am able to pick up quicker on some of the questions Michiko is asking me. Kinda scared of the Katakana, but I will do my best.

Injury

About twenty years ago, I was injured by accident and never fully healed. It was a very strange thing that happened. I was at the gym lifting weights. At the time, I was using a leg press machine. I was young and my legs were strong so I was pressing a lot of weight. I got up from the machine for just a moment to get a drink of water and a brief rest. When I returned, everything seemed normal. What I did not know was that someone changed the setting on the machine so that there was no weight. When I gave the machine a hard push thinking it would be heavy, I was startled to find that it was extremely light. The part of the machine that you push with your legs moved so fast because I pushed it so hard that before I could pull my legs back it hit me right in the shin. As a result, the piece of metal cut my legs and tore my skin. It hurt a lot, but no bone was broken, so I never saw a doctor and only covered the skin so it would heal. The skin healed but oddly the hair never grew back.

A Stranger in my own backyard

Walking alone at night on an empty street. Everything seems to be alive but somewhat dangerous. There are far away sounds of dogs barking and cats fighting and the occasional honking of horns. I almost feel like a stranger in my own neighborhood.

Phlebotomy mishap

I while ago I studied phlebotomy. During one class I was taking blood from the hand of a female classmate when suddenly, blood sprouted from her hand like a water fountain. Caught of guard, I froze. I wore gloves, but for some reason, I still backed away without taking the needle from her hand. I guess I still had some fear about getting blood on myself.

At that moment I thought I would never be able to draw blood from another person. That night I got little sleep as I thought about the incident and having to go back to class the next day. How would I face that girl, my partner in the class, again? What if she sprouts blood again? Fear gripped me as I thought about so many things.

That morning I had a hard time eating breakfast. On the way to class, I said a quick prayer. When I got there I was nervous, but not enough so to keep me from performing. I stood in front of my partner, took her arm and placed a needle in her vein and drew blood like I never had a fear.

If you have had a scare while performing on your job, think about what happened. Let it sink in but don’t let it scare you. Let it teach you how to not be afraid.

my dog

I have a yorkshire terrier. His name is koko. Its funny when I bathe him. When its time to rinse him, i hold him in the palm of my hand and rinse. His natural instinct kicks in and he starts to swim in the air.

Lesson update

Yesterday, I read my profile in Japanese three times. I got through it with a few mistakes, but am happy that I’ve improved a bit more. Writing Hiragana has been pretty fun and I’m beginning to understand it more. Katakana on the other hand is giving me a bit of trouble. Well, practice makes perfect.
