Lately at my job there has been only two Japanese speakers so even though it is not really busy, it is very busy for myself and the other speaker because it is up to us to handle all of the Japanese customers that come to ride the submarine. Sometimes because of this we have to work on our days off. Usually it is only a half day but there are occasions when it is a full day. Because of this I find that the days just run into each other and when I have a day off on the next day I am scared to hear my phone ring or have a text come in because it often means that I have to work! It is as if my phone is yelling at me not to make any plans!

　最近、私は、ツアー客がそんなに多くない日でも、忙しさに振り回されています。日本人客への対応は、すべて日本語を話せる者に任されているからです。現在、私の職場には、日本語を話せる者は二人しかいません。また、その為、休みの日に出勤を余儀なくされることもあります。大抵は、半日ですが、丸一日のこともあります。せっかくの休みは、丸潰れになります。休みの前日、私は携帯電話の着信音を聞くと、ギクッとします。それは、しばしば、出勤依頼の通知だからです。携帯の着信音は、まるで、予定を入れるなと叫んでいるようです。

仕事を本当に楽しんでいます。

my morning routine

One of my favorite memories of living and working in Hadano was that when driving in the morning I could often see Fuji san! I was so very lucky! So many people come from from very far away countries to get a glimpse of one of the most recognizable mountains in the world and I often got to see it going from my house to the store! To me it is the perfect shape and in the winter with the snow on the top it looks so amazing! I have seen Fuji san hundreds of times and yet that sight never gets old! For me when I got to see it on my way to work I always thought that it was like a sign of good luck for the day. When customers came in we would always ask if they saw Fuji san! That is something that I miss very much in Hawaii.

　秦野で生活し、ダイブショップを経営していた私には、忘れられない思い出があります。それは、朝、車で店に向かう途中、よく富士山を見たことです。本当に幸運でした。遠く離れた国から多くの人が、世界でもっとも有名な富士山を、ひと目、見るためにやってきます。私は、自宅から店に向かう時、しょっちゅう富士山を見ました。富士山は完璧な姿を見せてくれました。雪におおわれた冬の富士山も素晴らしいです。私は何百回も富士山を見ました。しかし、決して見あきることはありませんでした。富士山を見ることができた日は、その日一日、ついていると思ったものです。そして、お客様が店にいらした時、いつも富士山を見たかどうか聞いたものです。ハワイに住んでいて、懐かしく思うことのひとつです。
