笑い声栄えた船の浮き沈み
わらいごえ　さかえた ふね の　うきしずみ

In Honolulu Harbor there are some boats that nobody uses. They stay at the dock never to be taken out again. It is very sad because at one time they were very beautiful, elegant boats. Maybe they were used for sunset cruises or for special parties and maybe even famous people rode them at one time but now they are forgotten, slowly rusting away. The sounds of laughter that once rang out on the boats are now almost haunting ghosts as it is a reminder of the glory of the past. Now the only thing is either taking them apart for scrap or taking them into International waters and sinking them.

　ホノルルの港には、誰も使っていない船舶が、何隻かあります。このような船は、ドックの中に入れられたまま、二度と使用されることはありません。昔は、上品で、美しい船だったことを思うと、あわれな気持ちになります。船は、恐らく、サンセットクルーズ、あるいは、特別なパーティーに使われ、著名な人達も利用したかも知れません。しかし、今は、忘れ去られ、ゆっくり錆びていくのを待つだけです。かつて、船上に鳴り響いた笑い声は、幽霊のたたりのようです。以前の輝かしい栄光は、良くない思い出になりました。今、できることは、船を解体して良い部品だけ取るか、国際海域に持って行って沈めるかのどちらかです。

一隻は、ハワイでクルーズツアーに使われています。
二隻は、停泊したまま錆びて、腐食が進んでいます。
にせきは、ていはくしたまま　さびて、ふしょくが　すすんでいます。

Since I ran in a five kilometer race, I received free tickets to a local, professional women’s basketball game. The name of the team is the Lynx. The team is really good and has four players that were on the gold medal winning team for the USA in Rio this summer. The game was a tournament game. To encourage the players to play well, we were all given white towels to waive in the air. Although waiving white flags usually means “surrender,” when we waived the towels and all you could see was white, the team would get very aggressive. In the end, the team won the game. Now, the team is trying to win its fourth championship so they are “going for four.”

　ブラジルのリオデジャネイロで、オリンピックが行われた年のことです。私は、５キロレースを完走したので、地元の女子プロバスケットボールチームの無料チケットを手に入れることができました。チームの名前は、ミネソタ・リンクスです。リンクスは、日本語で、大山猫を意味します。このチームには、リオ・オリンピックで金メダルを獲得した米国チームのメンバーが４人もいました。素晴らしいチームです。試合は、トーナメント方式でした。私たちは、観客席から声援を送る為に、全員、白いタオルを貰いました。通常、白旗を振る場合、降伏を意味します。しかし、私たちの振る白いタオルで観客席が埋め尽くされると、選手たちは、ますます攻撃的なプレイを見せてくれました。チームは、勝ちました。チームは、４回目の決勝戦に挑（いど）んでいました。四連覇を目指して、「頑張れ、リンクス」です。

四連覇を目指して、頑張れ、リンクス！
よんれんぱ を めざして、がんばれ　りんくす！

hills move up
float gently wings spread
sides flow down

両翼や肩から浮揚丘の上
りょうよく や　かた から ふよう　おか の うえ

In Tai Chi, the movements are very slow and are supposed to be done with little energy. So, when the arms are lifted, the motion begins with the shoulders. As the shoulders move up, the arms begin to rise. Once the arms reach shoulder level, they start to gently move down. The motion should be fluid like a bird flapping its wings.

　太極拳は、体のエネルギーを出来るだけ使わないで、すべての動きを非常にゆっくりする必要があります。ですから、例えば、腕を上げる時、動きは、肩から持ち上げ始めます。肩が上がると、腕は自然に上がり始めます。腕が肩の高さに達したら、ゆっくり下ろし始めます。動きは、鳥が翼を広げて羽ばたくように滑らかです。
