This past week on the glass bottom boat that I work on I had a very special event! While we were in the Diamond Head area we spotted a very large fish on the surface. It was thrashing and trying to swim away but I could tell it was in trouble. While my customers held my pants so I would not fall in the boat came up to the fish and using a long pole with a net I was able to get after 3 or 4 misses. The fish is called a Kahala and is very good to eat but when preparing it the cook has to carefully exam the meat for worms. The one I caught was around 15 kilos or about 30 pounds. My Captain took it home!

　先週、グラスボトム ボートで仕事をしている時、私は特別な体験をしました。ダイヤモンド ヘッドの近くで、海面に現れた大きな魚を見つけました。魚は、ばたばたもがいて泳ぎ去ろうとしましたが、思うように体が動かないように見えました。お客様は、私が海に落ちないようにズボンをつかんでくれました。私は網の付いている長い竿を持って、３回、４回と失敗しつつも、やっとの思いで、その魚を捕まえることができました。それは、カハラと言う魚でした。とても美味しい魚です。しかし、料理をする時、回虫がいないかよく注意しなければなりません。魚の重さは１５キロ位でした。船長が持って帰ることになりました！

I was summoned to jury duty in early May. Jury duty, in which citizens participate in the administration of laws, is considered to be the cornerstone of democracy. When you are selected to be a juror, you will be expected to fulfill that duty. When I arrived at court in the early morning, most of the jurors, approximately 80 people, were already there and waited quietly for the start of jury grouping by a court clerk, according to the number of trials scheduled for the day.

　５月上旬に陪審員義務（jury duty）でダグラス郡（在住地のオマハ市が属す）の司法本部に行きました。市民が直接に司法制度に参加するjury dutyは民主主義の根本精神とみなされていますので、陪審員に選ばれるとその義務を果たすことが期待されています。定日の朝、司法本部に出向くと、すでに大方の陪審員（総計　目算で８０人）は出頭していました。法廷事務員の指示説明とその日の公判数に従い、陪審員は約２０人ずつにグループ分けされ、別々の法廷へと向かいました。

The House Wren is a smaller version of the Mejiro (a white-eye). The “big” singing voice of this small bird heralds the beginning of the warm season. It is fun to catch a glimpse of the bird dashing from under one leaf to another among the Hosta bushes.

　ハウスレン House Wren（和名 みそさざい）はメジロを一回り小さくしたような鳥です。小さに体に似わわぬ大きな鳴き声の持主で、暖かい季節の到来を告げます。尾をぴんと挙げ、庭に茂るホスタの葉陰から次のホスタの葉陰へと、目も止まらぬ速さで移動する姿を目撃するのは楽しみです。

Easter was on 21 April. Andrew, the kids, and I went over to my sister’s to celebrate there. She lives about 15 minutes from my house so it was a short drive. The kids were really excited to go. They played with their cousins and ate a lot of food. The kids liked the deserts in particular. They were so many deserts and all were delicious. After dinner, everyone went outside to do the Easter egg hunt. The kids waited inside while the adults hid the eggs. Once the eggs were all hidden, all the kids ran outside to find them. They had a blast searching for the eggs. Overall, it was a good very enjoyable day.

　４月２１日は復活祭でした。子供を連れて主人と妹の家に遊びに行きました。妹の家は、私の家から車で１５分くらいのところにあります。子供たちは、とても興奮していました。料理をお腹いっぱい食べ、妹の子供と遊びました。子供たちは、特にデザートが気に入りました。テーブルにはデザートがたくさん並び、どれもおいしかったです。夕食のあと、みんなでイースターエッグハントをするために庭に出ました。大人が卵を隠している間、子供たちは家の中で待ちました。大人が卵をすべて隠したあと、子供たちは卵を見つけるために庭に飛び出しました。大声を出して卵を探しました。とても楽しい一日でした。
