On Saturday, August 8 Hawaii’s Covid Virus restrictions went back to being much more strict since the number of infected cases has gone up. Along with an extension of the 2 week quarantine for people coming into Hawaii the inter island quarantine for two weeks is also back. All beaches, parks and their parking lots are closed along with hiking trails, bars and other operations not considered essential. This will continue until September 5 and then will be either continued or ended. It is OK to go swimming as long as you do not wait on the beach. In one week over 1300 citations have been given!

　８月８日土曜日、ハワイのコビッドウイルス規制は、感染した人が増えて来たため、前の厳しさに戻りました。ハワイに来る人の２週間の隔離とともに、他の島を旅行した場合の２週間の隔離も、再び、行なわれます。すべてのビーチや公園、そして、その駐車場は閉鎖されています。また、ハイキングコース、バー、その他、必要不可欠でない所も閉鎖されています。これは９月５日まで続き、その後、継続か終了かの判断がされます。海に入るのは、許されますが、ビーチで遊ぶのは、許されません。この一週間で、１３００人以上の人が規則を破って罰金を取られました。

屋内の活動増えて太くなる
おくない の かつどう ふえて　ふとく なる

For the second time this year all parks, beaches, and pools are closed on Oahu. These days it is difficult to do outdoor activities. You cannot play basketball, soccer, or baseball. You cannot swim in a pool or sit on the beach. As a result, a new popular trend was created. Instead of playing outside people are gaining weight. Sadly, I am part of the new trend. I went from　88.5Kg to 104.5kg in 6 months. =(

　オアフ島のすべての公園、ビーチ、プールは閉鎖されます。今年２回目です。最近、屋外での活動が難しくなりました。バスケットボール、サッカー、野球はできません。また、プールで泳いだり、ビーチに座ったりすることもできません。その結果、大はやりの新しいトレンドが生まれました。外で遊ぶ代わりに、みんなの体重が増えていることです。残念なことに、私は新しいトレンドに当てはまります。 ６ヶ月で、８８.５キロから１０４.５キロになりました。

It is the right time now to go to the other islands as the price for airplane It is the right time now to go to the other islands as the price for airplane tickets and hotels are very inexpensive and because of their being fewer tourists right now items like rental cars and restaurants are also very inexpensive. I recently went to Maui for a few days for a scuba diving job and I was very surprised on how everything was so open and not crowded as it usually is. The drive from the airport to the hotel took half the usual time and the beaches and diving spots were almost like private spots! Once the tourists return I know I will miss this!

　私にとって、他の島に遊びに行くのは、今が一番良い時期です。飛行機代やホテル代は、非常に安いですし、観光客は、ほとんどいないので、レンタカーやレストランも安いです。私は、最近、スキューバダイビングを教える為に、三日ほど、マウイ島へ行きました。いつもなら、人でいっぱいなのに、まったく、混んでいないのでビックリしました。空港からホテルまでは、車で３０分くらい、いつもの半分の時間で着きました。ビーチやダイビングスポットは、ほとんどプライベートスポットのようでした。観光客の皆さんが、戻っていらっしゃったら、今の状態を懐かしく思い出すと思います。

This year Bali and I took a short winter vacation in the Snowy Mountains of Australia. It was Bali’s first time seeing snow! It was a very interesting experience as everything was done differently at the snow fields this year due to the covid crisis. The day Bali and I arrived was the second day the ski field “Perisher” opened for the year due to covid and things were in a bit of disarray to be honest. It was a bit disappointing actually as we missed out on skiing due to being sold the wrong ticket so we spent the day at the ski field  without skiing. Nevertheless everything else about our short holiday was great. Our accommodation at a lovely lodge and our bus trip to and from the Sydney as well as dropping in to see Canberra for a night on our return were all most interesting and made up for it all. I will definitely go back again one day as the holiday in the snow is something very different for Australians in Australia indeed.

　今年は、息子のバリとオーストラリア南東部にあるスノーウィー・マウンテンズで短い冬休みを過ごしました。この旅行でバリは、初めて雪を見ました。今年のゲレンデは、コロナショックのせいで、すべて、いつもと違った方法で行われました。これは本当に面白い経験でした。私たちが到着した日は、スキー場「ペリッシャー」がオープンした２日目で、はっきり言って、現場は少し混乱していました。私たちは、チケットが間違っていた為、スキーが出来ないまま、１日、スキー場で過ごすはめになりました。しかし、この出来事以外は、十分に楽しむことが出来ました。私たちの泊まった素敵なロッジ、そして、シドニーとスノーウィー・マウンテンズの往復バス旅行、また、バス旅行の帰りに立ち寄った夜のキャンベラ、すべて大変興味深く、スキー場「ペリッシャー」での不手際を補って余りあるものでした。雪の中で過ごす休暇は、オーストラリア人にとって、特別なものがあります。私は間違いなく、いつかまた戻って来るつもりです。

Since there have been nor tourists coming into Hawaii, the only people that have been going to the beach have been the local community. During the week Waikiki is very slow. So slow that on Sunday there are no cars allowed and Kalakaua Avenue is closed except for bikes and people walking. In normal times that would be impossible. Starting on August 1st tourists will be allowed back to the islands so the local community will lose their private beaches!

　このところ、ハワイに来る観光客はいませんから、ビーチに行くのは地元の人達だけです。平日のワイキキは、ガラガラです。また、日曜日は車の乗り入れが禁止され、自転車と歩行者を除いてカラカウア通りは閉鎖されます。今回のような非常事態でないとありえないことです。しかし、八月一日から観光客はハワイに自由に入れますので、地元の人達は、プライベートビーチを失うことになります。
