あずきちゃん家族のままでまた会おう

For a little over a month my wife and I have been taking care of our friend’s cat which actually at one time was our cat. Azuki has slowly become part of our family. At first she hid under my bed but now she loves to sit next to me on my back pack and be petted. Unfortunately, my cat Karin and Azuki seem to hate each other and are constantly fighting. My friend comes back from Japan in a few days and Karin will have the whole apartment again!

　私たち夫婦は、ここ１か月余り、友人の猫の世話をしてきました。実はこの猫は私達が前に飼っていた猫でした。名前はアズキでした。アズキは、再び、ゆっくり私たちの家族の一員に戻りました。最初はベッドの下に隠れていましたが、今では私の隣でリュックに乗ってなでられるのが大好きです。残念ながら、カリンはアズキが大嫌いです。いつも喧嘩をしています。私の友人は、今週日本から帰って来てアズキを迎えに来ます。その時、私のアパートはカリンだけのものになります。

献血所また増えてきた空きベッド

When the first lockdown in Hawaii happened around April, the rules were very strict and there were few places that people were allowed to go to. Only essential places like stores to buy food, banks and service stations. Since there were very few places to go to the blood banks were suddenly very busy with people wanting to donate blood as it gave them an opportunity to get out of the house. Before the lock down I could easily make my once every two weeks appointment but after the lock down it was so busy that I had to book almost two months in advance! Things have gotten back to normal now and I can finally make my every two weeks appointment. I am sure that for that short period of time the blood banks reached their goals of donations!

　４月に最初のロックダウンが始まった時、規則は大変厳しく、私たちが行ける場所はほとんどありませんでした。行けたのは、スーパ―マーケット、銀行、ガソリンスタンドのような必要不可欠な所だけでした。外に出られる場所がほとんどなかったので、血液銀行が急に混みだしました。血液銀行に行く場合は、大手を振って外出できるからです。ロックダウン前は２週間に１回の予約が簡単にできました。しかし、ロックダウン後は、血液銀行が忙しくなり、２ヶ月近く前に予約しなければなりませんでした。今はいつもの状態に戻っており、ようやく２週間ごとに予約を入れることができます。この短い期間で、血液銀行は血液確保の目標を確実に達成したと思います。

ジム ウッドハルさんは、血液センターから、血小板の提供をしていただけないかと尋ねられて以来、１２年間、定期的に、血小板成分献血を続けています。はしかとか天然痘か何かの病気にかかっていないため、採取された血小板は、妊娠中の女性や赤ちゃんに使われます。（編集長 美智子）

Today, October 6, I did the Covid Virus test. I am renewing my Captain’s license and before I do the other health checks I have to do the Covid Virus check. Today was the second time I have had to do this test. It was very uncomfortable and a little painful but better than the first time. I did it at the hospital but I did not get out of the car. Sitting in the car the nurse put what looked like a long Q tip in both sides of my nose for 10 seconds each. It was really difficult! After two days I will get the results. I think that the Nurse has a very bad job!

　今日、１０月６日、私はコビッドウイルス検査を受けました。船長のライセンスを更新する場合、他の健康診断をする前にコビッドウイルス検査をする必要があります。今日は２回目でした。１回目より楽でしたが、やはり非常に不快で少し痛かったです。検査は病院でするのですが、車に乗ったままでします。運転席に座っていると看護師は、長い綿棒のようなものを鼻の穴の奥の方まで、それぞれ１０秒ずつ入れました。とてもきつかったです。２日後、結果がわかります。考えて見ると、看護師の仕事は本当に大変だと思います。

久しぶりボートのツアー海に出る
ひさしぶり　ボート の ツアー　うみ に でる

On Saturday, September 26th I finally had a boat tour! Looking at the Captain’s log book the last tour was on June 12th! The lock down rules have become a little bit easier and tour boats can now take 25% of the total passengers allowed. On the boat that I drive I can take 13 passengers. The tour was a private birthday tour that went from 3:30 until 6:30 in the afternoon and it ended with us watching the sunset. It was a very nice relaxing tour and everybody had a lot of fun. I hope that I can get more tours!

　９月２６日土曜日、やっと遊覧船ツアーを行ないました。航海日誌を見ると、最後のツアーは６月１２日でした。ロックダウンの規制が少しゆるくなり、今は、定員の２５％の乗客を船に乗せることが出来ます。私の操縦する船には１３人乗れます。今回のツアーは乗客７名で、プライベートの誕生パーティーでした。時間は午後３時３０分から６時３０分までのツアーでした。夕日を眺めながら港に戻りました。乗客の皆さんは、ゆったりくつろいで、楽しんでいらっしゃいました。これからツアーの仕事が増えてくることを願います。

Since the end of March there has been very few tourists here because of the quarantine regulations and also the people who live here have tended to stay close to home so that the roads are usually empty. I saw my first traffic jam in a long time the other night on my walk with my wife. The traffic jam was of cars leaving the Waikiki side and heading towards the North and West side. It was strange to see a traffic jam again! I believe that will become a common sight again.

　３月末以降、コロナウイルスによる隔離措置のため観光客は非常に少なく、地元の人は家の近くにいる傾向があったので、道路はいつもガラガラでした。先日、妻と夜の散歩中、６ヶ月ぶりに交通渋滞を見ました。渋滞は、ワイキキを出て北と西へ向かう車の列でした。交通渋滞を見るのは久しぶりだったので不思議な感じがしました。これから、また、よく見かける光景になると思います。

王の色アロハタワーの贈り物
おう の いろ　アロハタワー の　おくりもの

My wife and I go out for our evening walk almost every day and usually we like to go to the Aloha Tower to see what color the lights will be. The tower is usually bathed with a green light and there are also days when the light is red. Every once in a while the light is purple but last night it was a combination of all three colors which is the first time for me! I don’t know if there is any significance but maybe it is a present for all of us dealing with the Corona Virus.

　私は、ほぼ毎日、妻と二人で夜の散歩に出かけます。その時、アロハタワーに行ってライトの色を確かめるのが好きです。アロハタワーは、だいたい緑のライトで照らされています。しかし、赤の日もあります。たまに紫がかった色の時もあります。昨夜は特別でした。３色すべての色が使われていました。初めて見ました。どんな意味があるのか分かりませんが、コロナウイルスと戦っている私たちの為のプレゼントかも知れません。

証明書ネットの処理は味気ない

The new corona virus has affected my work. My work hasn’t changed. I still have to go to the office. But the public cannot enter the building right now. My building is where people go for their marriage certificates. It is also where you get a birth certificate and death certificate. 6 months ago, hundreds of people visited my building. Now, everything is closed. All documents are issued and processed online.

　新コロナウイルスは、私の職場にも影響しています。私の仕事内容は変わりません。また、毎日、事務所に行かなければなりません。しかし、建物に入れるのは職員だけで、一般市民は入ることはできません。私の事務所では、結婚証明書や出生証明書、死亡証明書を発行しています。６ヶ月前までは、申請する人が、毎日、何百人も事務所に来ました。しかし今はすべて閉鎖されています。そして、書類はすべてインターネットで処理しています。
