Collaborative Haiku Poem – 州境

two states
divided by Missouri river
reflecting autumn sky

州境秋空映すミズリー川
しゅうざかい　あきぞら うつす　ミズリーがわ

Early in December, the chiropractic clinic of Dr. Laura, who has taken care of me over ten years, moved to a new place. In the past, her clinic situated in the middle of downtown Omaha where banks and other businesses occupy many buildings.  Late in November, we went searching the new address in the east side of Omaha.  The address turned out to be near the building my husband Norman used to rent as his art studio. The building and surrounding area are much cleaner now, and you are able to see 360 degree all around, even hear the sound of water in the Missouri river. As for all of us, being under great stress during this pandemic, it is so nice to be in a bright and spacious place.

　１２月初め、ここ１０年余り定期的に通院しているカイロプラクター（chiropractor 脊椎指圧治療師）のローラ先生が診療所を移転しました。これまでは銀行その他の事務系の集まっているビル街の真ん中でしたが、さらに東方に移るとのことなので、１１月末、下検分かたがた新住所を探してみました。そこは、なんと、夫ノーマンが数年前アートスタジオとして借りていたビルのすぐ近くの建物でした。数年前に比べると、建物自体やその周辺は整備され、ぐるり３６０度見回せ、耳を澄ますと、東隣のアイオア州との境をながれるミズリー川の水音も聞こえるほどです。ウイルス禍で何かとストレスの多いこの時期、この広い場所に立つと晴々とした気持ちになります。

sailing in the distance

一隻で輝きの増すサンセット
いっせき で　かがやき の ます　サンセット

When I have my sun set tours the main reason is of course to see a beautiful sunset. There is always the chance of dolphins, and in the winter season, there is also a chance to see whales. One of my favorite views though is that of a solitary sail boat in the distance with the setting sun behind it. It makes for a beautiful picture and it is a wonderful sight to see.

　サンセット ツアーをする主な目的は、もちろん美しい夕日を見ることです。またツアーでは、常にイルカを見るチャンスがあり、冬にはクジラを見るチャンスもあります。私のお気に入りの景色の１つは、一隻のヨットが日没の太陽を背にしている姿です。それは本当に絵になります。サンセットだけを楽しむ以上に素晴らしい景色です。

my extra eyes
making sure the way is clear
safe sailing

前方を見守る船に波静か
ぜんぽう を　みまもる ふね に　なみ しずか

One of the nicest things about my job driving the glass bottom boat is that I get to work with my wife! My wife is the First Mate on the boat and her main responsibility is to let me know if anything or anybody is in the way of the boat. She spends the majority of the tour in the very front of the boat and lets me know who or what is in the way because I am often not able to see directly in front because of the customers on the boat. She also lets everybody know if there are turtles or dolphins to be seen and she also takes pictures of the customers and helps them out if they need anything.

　グラス ボトム ボートの仕事で一番良いことは妻と一緒に仕事ができることです。妻は、私の操縦するグラス ボトム ボートの右腕です。妻の主な仕事は、船の進行の障害になる物や人を船長の私に知らせることです。ツアー中、妻はほとんど船の前方にいます。そして、船の進行を妨げるものがないか確認します。私は立っているお客様のせいで、たいてい直接、前を見ることができません。そのほかに、妻は亀やイルカを見たらすぐみんなに知らせます。また、お客様の写真を撮ってあげたり、お客様に何か問題があればすぐに助けます。
