お弁当終えてぶらぶらありがとう
おべんとう　おえて ぶらぶら　ありがとう

Recently my wife bought a nice lunch box for me. So of course, I have to bring lunch to work more often. At first, I was against it but after a few weeks I’m really starting to enjoy it. I don’t have to spend my lunch break looking for food then quickly eating it. Instead, I can casually walk around downtown. I usually start my lunch break by taking a short ride on the bus to Fort Street Mall. Then I buy some bottled tea for the walk.  After that I’ll wander through the farmer’s market looking at all the fruits, vegetables, and knick knacks. If there’s no market, I’ll walk aimlessly around downtown enjoying the views. Twice a week however I do have a goal. I walk to the post office to mail a card to my wife. It’s because of her gift I can walk around during my lunch break.

　最近、日本にいる妻が素敵な弁当箱を送ってくれました。もちろん毎日、昼食を弁当箱に詰めて事務所に持って行く必要があります。はじめは嫌でした。しかし数週間後、お弁当を事務所に持って行くのが楽しくなりました。弁当箱のお陰で、私は昼休みの時間を食べ物探しに使ったり、その場ですぐに食べる必要がありません。その代わりに、ダウンタウン周辺を歩き回ることが出来ます。私は事務所で昼食を取った後、昼休みを始めます。いつもバスに乗ってフォートストリートモールまで行き、それから散歩用にペットボトル入りのお茶を買います。その後、ファーマーズマーケットで、果物や野菜、雑貨品を見たりして、ぶらぶらします。市場がない時は、景色を楽しみながら繁華街をぶらぶらします。しかし週2回ですが、ぶらぶらではなく、まっすぐ行くところがあります。妻にカードを送るために郵便局に行く時です。今私は妻の贈り物のお陰で、昼休みに歩き回ることができます。

Spring time is coming
yellow flowers slowly fall

見上げれば黄色いシャワー春の花
みあげれば　きいろい シャワー　はる の はな

In Hawaii there are different signs that winter is over and that Spring is coming. The winds will change from a straight North wind to a North East or straight East wind. There are also times when the winds will go South to South West which means that on the South side of Oahu all boating operations are usually canceled. Different plants and flowers also bloom. My favorite blooming flower is from the Golden Shower tree. The tree blooms around February and March and I think the yellow flowers are very beautiful. It grows from 10 to 20 meters and its seeds are poisonous. After its yellow flowers fall to the ground they are replaced by green leaves and I know that Spring is here and Summer will soon follow!

　冬が終わって、ハワイに春が来る時、色々な気配があります。北の風は、北東の風、または東の風に変わります。時々、南の風、あるいは、南西の風のこともあります。この時期、オアフ島の南のボートツアーは大抵すべてキャンセルされます。また、さまざまな草花が咲きます。私のお気に入りの花は、ゴールデンシャワーの木に咲く花です。２月から３月にかけて咲き、黄色い花が大変美しいです。この木は１０メートルから２０メートルくらいの高さに成長します。種は有毒です。黄色い花が地面に落ちたあと、木の枝に緑の葉が出ます。その頃、春になり、夏がすぐそこに来ていることが分かります。

宙に舞う回転イルカ笑い声
ちゅう に まう　かいてん イルカ　わらい ごえ

Because of the Covid rules, the Glass Bottom Boat is only able to take a little over half of the maximum number of customers. This means that only 25 people can be on the boat. One nice result of this rule is that since the groups are smaller the tour tends to be a little more relaxed and I have more time to look for dolphins and whales. I have been very lucky in that lately there have been a lot of spinner dolphin sightings and many times the dolphins jump into the air to the delight of all the customers.

　新型コロナウイルスの規則により、グラスボトムボートに乗って頂くお客様の数は、いつもの半分ちょっとです。ですから、乗れるのは２５人位です。この規則のお陰で良いこともあります。人数が少ない為、お客様はゆったりしたツアーを楽しめます。一方、私たちは、イルカやクジラを探す時間が増えます。最近、ハシナガイルカがたくさん目撃され、イルカが宙に舞って飛び込み、お客様を喜ばせています。
