一日の疲れ和らぐバスケット
いちにち の　つかれ やわらぐ　ばすけっと

Each evening after studying all day Bali and I take an outing to a local park for a fun activity. Bali has come to love basketball so we find places to go with basketball facilities. Bali enjoys practising basketball with me and since doing so I’ve come to enjoy basketball too.  When I was in school I played netball however years later the experience is very different and basketball rules are obviously different too. I also enjoy practising yoga whilst Bali is playing some evenings. Yoga is great and truly gives me a sense of peace, relaxation and positive endorphins which uplift me. I love yoga practise. Discovering new areas, which can be an adventure indeed.

　一日の勉強を終えると、息子のバリと私は息抜きの軽い運動をするために、夕方、近隣の公園に出かけます。息子はバスケットボールが好きになったのでバスケットコートのある場所を探して行きます。バリは私とバスケットボールの練習を楽しみますので、そうしているうちに私もだんだん好きになってきました。私は学生時代にネットボールをしていましたが、数年後にバスケットボールを経験して、全く異なるスポーツだということがわかりました。ルールもはっきり違います。バリがバスケットボールをしている間に、私はヨガの練習を楽しむこともあります。ヨガをしていると、リラックスするとともにポジティブなエンドルフィン（幸福ホルモン）によって元気が出ます。ヨガは本当に素晴らしいです。バリと私は自転車に乗ったり、歩き回ったりして、新しいエリアを発見しています。それは本当に冒険といえます。

shining at the sky
cuts through the darkness
our Honolulu lights

三年ぶりホノルルライト明かり空
さんねん ぶり　ほのるる らいと　あかり ぞら

Because of Covid, the last two years the Honolulu lights were not held so I was very happy to see that this year they were held again! This year’s Honolulu lights are about 85% of what they were before Covid but it was still nice to see many nice displays and hopefully next year the show will be 100% of what it was before the Covid pandemic. I was happy to see many people out enjoying the lights and hopefully things are returning to normal again!

　コロナ禍のせいで、去年と一昨年はホノルルのクリスマスライトが点灯されませんでした。ですから今年は開催されてとても嬉しかったです。コロナ禍になる前に比べて今年はやや少なく８５％くらいですが、明るくきれいなイルミネーションとデコレーションが見られて良かったと思います。来年はコロナ禍前と１００％同じになることを望んでいます。今年は多くの人が楽しんでいるのを見て嬉しかったです。ハワイの状態が普通に戻っていくことを願っています。

Collaborative Haiku Poem – 竜巻の進路

竜巻の進路を知らす鳥えさ場
たつまき の　しんろ を しらす　とりえさば

On December 14, tornadoes ran through Nebraska, Iowa and other neighboring states. Some areas suffered significant damages. It is said to be difficult to pinpoint the exact spots tornadoes hit, as the movement of tornadoes is affected by atmospheric pressure, temperature and other weather factors. The indicator I often use in predicting whether tornadoes are heading toward our way or not is the behavior of wild birds: usual or unusual? In that afternoon, wild birds congregating at our backyard feeders kept on eating as if nothing was happening, even when tornado sirens were blaring. Thus, I inferred that tornadoes were not coming our way. Fortunately, we were safe from tornadoes. Only a few branches were broken due to high gusts of wind.

　１２月１４日午後4時、竜巻がネブラスカとアイオワならびに両州の近隣を襲い、かなりの被害が出ました。竜巻は気圧、気温等の種々の気象条件に左右されるため、直撃を受ける地点を厳密に予測する事は困難とされています。竜巻に襲われるかどうかの私的な指針としているのは小鳥たちの行動です。その日の午後、餌場に集まっている小鳥たちが竜巻警報が鳴り響いている最中でも何もなかった如くにえさを食べているのを見て、私の住んでいる区域はおそらく大丈夫と判断しました。幸い今回は、突風で２、３の枝が折れただけで、竜巻の直撃を受けずに済みました。
