I had dinner at my restaurant last night with some friends.  We had a great time, it wasn’t really for me I just wanted to make sure they enjoyed eating at Ruth Chris.  It was the first time for all of them.  We started the evening enjoying drinks at Roy’s then went to our reservation up stairs.  I ended up ordering everything so that they wouldn’t get confused on the menu.  They seemed to enjoy it all.  Appetizers were delicious and I was more than happy to let them try everything themselves.  I was hungry but for me it was more for them to enjoy the meal.  Salads then came and they seemed to be liking everything I ordered.  Main dish eventually came, we had bone-in new york, filet mignon, cowboy ribeye, and a broiled stuffed chicken.  I heard so many oo’s and ahh’s it made me feel good to see them appreciate the meal.  I am hoping that my showing them around will lead to possibly them showing me Japan.  I am trying really hard to find some new friends so that I have someone to show me how to see Japan.  I am worried at how much money to bring.  I really want to experience it all.

100歳を迎えた母は日常のすべてを独力でこなすことは難しくなり介護のゆきとどいた病院住宅へうつりました。

病院住宅というのは、病院内の部屋ですが、患者というわけではなく、それでいて、スタッフが身近にいるということで、安心感があり、母は気に入っています。

ただ、病室と同じですから、自室に暮らしていた時のように自由に電話を使うことが出来ません。

先月、堺市に住む長兄が、佐賀に講演に行くついでに母に会うが、母を車椅子で自室に連れて行くから、時間を見計らって電話をしたらどうかと言うメールをくれました。まことに名案で、母と電話で話した後、横浜の2兄、名古屋の4兄にメールを送って母が元気であるとの報告をしました。

勘の良い長兄は、5月の末にまた母の元に行くから、今度は2兄4兄私の3人皆、母と話せるようにしようといってくれました（３兄は母の近くに住んでいます)。早速、2兄が時間を調整、皆がＯＫのメールをやりとりして、10分ずつ順番に電話をすることに決定しました。

電話の備わってない病室、それに対して、瞬時に連絡のとれる電子メール、その両者をつなぐのはおなじみの電話、と、これもまた情報社会の現実ですね。

I had my dad visit last weekend and we went over to Kauai for the weekend. The canyon in Kauai is amazing, you just don’t think this canyon could be so big and deep on such a small island. It is really a sight to see. Also, there are chickens all over this island. You’ll see them the moment you land at the airport, along the road and at every resort.

If you haven’t been to Kauai, I strongly encourage you to take a weekend and make sure you visit the canyon. You will not regret it.
