Today I hiked Diamond Head with my girlfriend…

Today I hiked Diamond Head with my girlfriend and the view was awesome. It was amazing to see how clear the water was and all of the reef. The hike up was okay considering it took less than an hour at a leisurely pace but it was just super hot. I would definitely recommend going either early in the morning or late in the afternoon and also bringing water. Overall it was worth it for the view at the top.

Dr.Yoko Kelley

Preparation

It is not always easy for me to understand the value of preparation. Since, while I am preparing, it is hard work and I sometimes want immediate results. However, sometimes it takes many years before I see those tasks of preparation, bear any results. For example, I officially got my motorcycle license in 2001, but did not get my first motorcycle till 2009. However, I was ready and prepared, when the opportunity presented itself. Another example is that I have been studying Japanese since 2001, but have yet to really turn it into a vehicle that takes me places, besides basic conversations. However, as difficult as it is for me to understand the importance of my Japanese lessons at times, especially the Kanji that I am practicing now, some part of me knows that down the road some sort of opportunity with Japanese will present itself to me. I also know that becuase of my years of hard work I will be prepared to accept that opportunity, until then I will patiently practice Japanese.

Now that I’m home, I can post some of my pictures. I took so many picture’s, so I’ll only post the highlights. It rained just about everyday and the last day I almost got caught in the typhoon, but was able to take off in time.

Stress

Stress is a bad thing and a good thing. I think for me it motivates me to do stuff, but at the same time it gives me knots in my stomach.  I’m trying to apply for a special internship, and I am stressing over the whole application process. There is so much to do. Then I get to thinking how life is one giant list of things to do. There will never be an end to it because one issue or another will come up that will require attention. It might be the application letter today that you have to get done. Tomorrow the car’s breaks go bad and you have to change them.  Or maybe you need to mail those glasses your cousin from another state forgot at your house.  You promised to mail them a month ago and haven’t. It’s all one giant list.

Keep Practicing

Today I read my short stories with Michiko sensei and feel that I am gradually improving. It feels like the more I read, the more I understand the content of the story and the more I improve on natural pronunciation. I am having some trouble recognizing all of the different kanji characters though. They all look the same to me sometimes but again, the more I practice the more I start distinguishing the kanji characters from each other. I guess you just need to keep practicing and use Japanese on a daily basis.

It’s called “Tagiri”,
and the valley evokes
a great autumn storm.
