I have an interview coming up in a few days for a position with the JET program. I have taken the entire week off from work in order to study Japanese intensively so I can impress the interviewers. Every day, I find new articles on websites like the Asahi or yomiuri shinbun digital editions and study their content to learn more about Japan’s culture and language.

After Spanish and French, Japanese is the third foreign language I’ve studied. Of the three languages, I think Japanese is the most beautiful and has the most interesting culture. Both the Japanese language and culture are very different from my own, so I constantly discover new and interesting things when I study them.The history of Japan is particularly interesting. The Japanese lived much differently and under much different circumstances from westerners. They had a feudal system in which the caste of Samurai were highly respected not only as warriors but also administrators of the government. These days, the Japanese people have changed, but they’re still different from westerners on a fundamental level. For example, their entire society is structured around groups of people and they attach great importance to respecting the wishes of the group. I’ve learned a little about the existence of different types of groups such as the “nakama” and also “douryou” and I’d like to learn more about how it all works.

その名も　「サリ麺」！！

一見普通の即席めん。でもこれを鍋の〆にすると非常においしいんです！普通の即席めんだったらくつくつ煮てると柔らかくのびちゃっておいしくないけど、これはどんどんもっちりしてきます。

今日は胡麻ベースの出汁を作って鍋をしてみました。 鍋もおいしかったし、サリ麺合う～～～☆ おいしかった。満足です！おススメです！でもあんまり売ってない。。。どの範囲で売り出してるんやろ？

Whenever someone mentions that the rain is heavy here, I always tell them, you haven’t eperienced rain, like it does in Texas. One summer, I visited my brother while he was stationed in Texas. It couldn’t have been better timed as he was returning from the middle east right around Independence Day. Anyway, One day that summer we went outside and it was like God decided to dump a bucket on us. I had never experienced rain that heavy that fast in my life. We were soaked within seconds.

Flying airplanes has been a hobby of mine for a long time. I got my private pilot license a little over ten years ago and often fly smaller planes like Cessna 172s. I like to fly because it makes you feel very free. If you want to go up, down, or turn around, it is all up to you, just like a bird. Furthermore, especially in Hawaii, there are some amazing views. Of course, there is actually a lot that you have to know. You have to learn a lot of aviation rules, become more knowledgeable about weather, and be willing to talk on a radio. Plus, flying a plane is not as easy as it looks, since you have to constantly monitor a lot of information from your speed, to your altitude, to the performance of the engine. Although it takes a long time to learn all of this and get proficient at flying, I think it is worth it because flying is such an exhilarating activity.

The holidays were very strange for me this year. I traveled home all the way from Hawaii and worried the whole time how cold it was going to be. Strangely, there was no snow! Not any at all! It was one of the warmest winters in years. Unfortunately, this meant that there was no white Christmas.

今日は医療センターで看護師の川越先生の講演会がありました。
鳥取での講演に行き損ねていたのでよかった。

パワーのある方だった。すごく。人柄が好きです。『在宅ケアは「管理」をするのではなく、「生活、生きがい」に寄り添う。』少し言い回しが違ったかもしれんけど、この言葉がやっぱりズシっときました。実際、生活やその人そのものをみるって…難しい。簡単には言えるけど、自分の目で利用者さんを見たとき、視野と思考がなかなか広がらない。

病院看護師の考え方、在宅看護師の考え方。看護を提供する場が違うと当然、重きを置く点も、目線も違いがあるわけで。今自分は、植え付けてきた病院サイドの目線を持ちながら、在宅サイドの目線を肯定的に学ぼうとしてるわけで。境界型みたいな場所を歩いてる。どっちサイドにも共感できる。これってすごく貴重な時期やと思うので、大事にしていろいろ考えてみたいと思います。

今日の勉強終わり。さて、自分の私生活を今から楽しく過ごしますぞ。

インターネットで探すもなかなか高知ではアカペラをしてる団体がいない。半ばあきらめて、ゴスペルチャレンジかボイトレに通おうかと思っておりましたが。

なんと。
親友が「アカペラしたいと言ってる先生がおるからどう？」と声をかけてくれました！ 今日は仕事終わりに医大へ行き、その先生や親友たちとチョビットだけ歌ってきました。曲を決めて、パートも決めて、もう少しメンバーを集めて、これからも続けていこうとなりました。みなさん忙しいけど、やりたい気持ちはあるから続けていける気がする。

There is only peaceful world …

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!  I hope and pray everyone felt special and loved in some way today.  I just wanted to share how blessed I was.  I don’t ever get to go out to eat during the week since I homeschool my daughter and 2 grandsons.  Well, today I was able to take my daughter, Leslie, out for lunch to a nice sandwich shop and she drove me there.  Was nice and quiet.  I was already blessed by the opportunity to eat alone with her but we were doubly blessed when she went up to pay and they told her it was on the house.  I was surprised and thankful so told them so.  They just said they appreciated what our family does for our comunity and that was their way of saying   thanks to us.  So sweet (embarrassing too).  Sure teaches or reinforces to Leslie what it feels like to have a good name in a community.  We then went down the street where I had pre-ordered her valentine gift……chocolate covered strawberries that are to die for.  She requests them every year.  When I got home, all the kids and I gave a try at making chocolate roses from a recipe I found.  To my amazement, this non-creative, non-candy making blind girl made one by herself.  Leslie said it looked just like the picture.  I was blessed to accomplish something new on my first try.  Hidden talent?  LOL.  I was also given 2 already paid tickets to a pancake feed for Sat. that was a fundraiser and gave them to a couple of guys at the dinner tonight who couldn’t afford them.  Pass your blessings.  I also was blessed last night listening to our middle child, Jennifer, teach on the 5 love languages to the ladies of our church.  Then, of course, I feel blessed every day to be married to Steve and to live in America.  May you be blessed in the little things as well as the big.
