昨夜の嵐は本当に凄かったです。ナコスの近く、バス停前にあった大木が雷と強風のため、根こそぎなぎ倒されました。駐車場にとめてあった車５台が押しつぶされたそうです。 日本なら大事（おおごと）なのだろうけれど、案外、のんびり、ゆったりしているところが南国ハワイの良さでしょう。

2時半から10時まで勤務の夫が勤め先に到着早々電話してきました。 「先程、うちのちかくのショッピングモールで銃撃事件があったらしい。そこにはいかないように」。インターネットでオマハのテレビ局を探してみると、銃撃事件があったのは本当で、負傷者も出たらしい。たまたま、ブッシュ大統領もオマハを訪問していて、なにかと騒々しい。 こういう時は、おなじみのリスの顔でも見ておこう。

母から小包みが届きました。 同封の手紙によれば、お医者さんに｢足が弱っているから、あまり遠出はしないように」といわれているから、頂き物とここの売店で買った菓子類を入れてますとのこと。 ９９才の母にあれこれ送ってもらって、文句のあるはずがありません。 1976年に日本を離れて以来、母から小包みが届くたびに、そうでない日がきてもショックを受けないように、心の準備をしておかねばと自分に言い聞かせているのですが、母が歳を重ねるほどに、そうするのが難しくなっているように感じます。
