大根葉の蒸しケーキ

小松菜の蒸しケーキというレセピーをみつけ、小松菜の代わりに大根葉を使ってみました。実は、小松菜なる野菜を知りません。私の育った福岡では別の名で呼ぶのかもしれません。レセピーでは小松菜をそのままミキサーにかけるとありますので、固そうな大根葉はあらかじめ茹でる事にしました。その後はレセピーのとおりに卵、ヨーグルト、サラダ油、砂糖と一緒にミキサーにかけ、ふるっておいた小麦粉、ベーキングパウダー、重曹を加えて型にいれ、20分ばかり蒸すときれいな緑色のケーキの出来上がりです。甘過ぎずさっぱりとした味で、蒸しパンとケーキの中間といったところ。大根の葉のにおいはなく、この点の善し悪しは決めかねています。オーブンで焼いてもみましたが、ケーキの外側の緑色がパンのように茶色になってしまい、やはり蒸す方がよいようです。

なぞなぞアップリケ

新らしいキルトアップリケ手法を紹介した本をみつけ、やってみました(本のタイトルはartful quilts with fast-piece applique 、著者はRose hughes)。簡単に言うと2枚の生地を重ね、前もって書いておいた線に沿って上の生地をはさみで切り取ると下の生地がみえて、複雑な、見ようによっては3次元のデザインとなる、というものです。切り取り終わって(写真左)、切り取った生地は捨てるにはもったいない、これでなにか出来るのではと考え、今度はpaperーbacked fusible web(アイロンの熱で接着する方法)、いわば双子のアップリケを作ってみました(写真右)。並べてみると、水が半分入ったコップを、半分空とみるか、半分満ちたとみるか、に似たなぞなぞアップリケになりました。 作品としては、これから毛糸やビーズを縫い付け更に立体化していくが楽しみです。
