Island of Whales
Maui rises from the sea
calls me back again

好きな島飛び出す鯨矢張りマウイ
すきな しま　とびだす くじら　やはり マウイ

Recently I was able to go to one of my favorite Islands for a diving job. I was in Lahaina Maui for about 3 days and I was very fortunate that the fall weather was perfect! On my last day of diving I was able to hear a Mother whale communicating with her calf! When I was on the surface my customers and I saw them breach about 500 yards from where we were at! Oahu will not get any whales until the beginning of December. I am always very happy to be able to go to Lahaina, Maui as it is just a very beautiful place!

　この間、私はスキューバダイビングの仕事をする為に大好きな島へ行くことが出来ました。私は三日間位マウイ島のラハイナにいました。幸運なことに秋のお天気は凄く良かったです。ダイビングの最後の日、鯨のお母さんと赤ちゃんが鳴き声を交わしているのが聞こえました。私とお客様達が海面にいた時、お母さん鯨と赤ちゃん鯨は海面へ飛び上がりました。私達から鯨までの距離は５００メートルもありませんでした。オアフ島では１２月初旬ごろ鯨が現れます。マウイ島のラハイナはとても綺麗な所ですから、そこに行く機会があれば、私はいつも幸せな気持ちになります。

Collaborative Haiku Poem – 黄葉

the sun hits
colorful leaves
streets sparkle

cross roads
beautiful yellow leaves ahead
fail to turn right

黄葉の衣装きらめく街路かな
おうよう の　いしょう きらめく　がいろ かな

We all wait for the color change of leaves in Autumn.  I thought that oak leaves turned only brown. But, this year, the color change is wide, from bright lemon-yellow to reddish orange. The weather in early October, cold morning and warm daytime, seems to be helpful.

　秋といえば葉っぱの色変わりが楽しみの一つ。これまで樫の葉の色変わりといえば、赤銅色だけと思っていましたが、今年は明るいレモン色から赤味がかったオレンジ色と千差万別なのに驚いています。10月はじめの朝方冷え込み、日中暖かくとの天候が幸いしたようです。

十字路を右に曲がれば早く目的地に着くとわかっているが、
正面に見る黄檗の美しさについ真っ直ぐ行く。
そんな気持ちをヨーコさんは俳句ポエムにしました。
