サンセット大空染めて秋の海
サンセット　おおぞら そめて　あき の うみ

The fall season has arrived in Hawaii and one of the nice changes is that the sun sets over the ocean now until the late Spring when it will be back setting over the Waianae mountain range. This is my favorite kind of sunset because it almost looks like the ocean is swallowing the sun! There are often boats out in the distance which makes for a beautiful scene when the sun sets.

　ハワイに秋の季節が来ました。私にとって、一つの良い変化は、海に沈むサンセットです。春の終わり頃、またワイアナエの山脈に沈みます。海のサンセットは私の一番好きなサンセットです。海は太陽を飲み込んでいるような感じです。遠くの方に船が見えて、サンセットの時、とても美しい良い光景だと思います。

a massage chair

マッサージ絵文字操作に一苦労
マッサージ　えもじ そうさ に　ひとくろう

Our 15-years old massage chair finally broke. Deciding that there was no other way but to buy a new one, we went to the same store where we purchased the old one. As expected, 15 years have made a big improvement; the appearance is now egg-shaped and a touch screen shows lots of emoji to pick for control everything. Even though a massage chair is for relaxation, it seems to need an extra time to get accustomed to it.

　先日、１５年余り愛用した按摩椅子（マッサージチェア）が故障。１５年も使えば具合が悪くなっても文句言えないと、新しく買うことにし、古いチェアを買ったのと同じお店に行きました。１５年も経たので大幅に改善されているに違いないとの期待通り、外見も椅子の形が卵型になり、コントロールは全てタッチスクリーンに表示されている絵文字によるといささか戸惑いました。疲れを取るはずのマッサージチェアなのですが、まず慣れる必要がありそうです。

Christmas is coming

空いている秋がそろそろハワイ島
すいている　あき が そろそろ　ハワイとう

夏終わり次の活気はクリスマス
なつ おわり　つぎ の かっき は　クリスマス

The summer holidays are now over and with the recent tightening of Covid restrictions the tourists in Hawaii have really dropped off. This past September I went to Kona on the island of Hawaii and the plane from Honolulu to Kona was not even half full. The rental cars were not only in abundance they were also discounted. This past summer it was the opposite. Even though I booked my hotel late I got a room right away and even was able to check in at 9:00 in the morning instead of the normal time of 3:00 in the afternoon! The town seemed very quiet as there were not many people there. It will probably stay like this until the Christmas vacations start.

　夏休みは終わりました。夏の間は、人で賑わっていましたが、９月以降、コビッド規制が厳しく行なわれた結果、ハワイに来る人は、随分、減りました。夏場の賑わいが嘘のようです。私は９月に仕事でハワイ島のコナに行きました。飛行機に乗っていた乗客は、半分くらいでした。レンタカーの利用者も少なく、割引していました。私は、ホテルの予約を遅くしたのですが、すぐに部屋が取れました。普通、チェックインは午後３時からですが、午前９時にチェックインすることができました。人があまりいないので、コナの町はとても静かでした。クリスマス休みまでは、このような状態が続くと思います。
