Since I received eye treatment, I can see fine dust better than before. When I see dust, I clean it up frequently. It’s also a form of rehabilitation. I don’t need a vacuum cleaner. (Michiko)
We’ve been blessed with good weather for the past two weeks since the New Year, but when I step outside from the warm room, a strong wind blows. When the cold wind hits my eyes, tears start to flow. On days like these, I wear goggles when I go out. Even though I haven’t had any serious illnesses, I’m not very strong, so I need to take small daily precautions. I wear goggles for strong winds, take preventative medicine for my bronchial asthma and allergies, and avoid smoky places. These are my own preventative measures. (Michiko)
The new year has arrived! In Hawaii the New Year always means the busy season for the tourist industry which is welcomed because the weeks leading up to New Years is usually very slow. In Hawaii we have many of the same traditions as in other areas of the Pacific region such as special foods and of course the New Years celebrations. This New Years the fireworks were not as many as in past years but there was still a nice fireworks show in Waikiki and as is the custom in the island of Hawaii we go to the top of Makapu on the East side to see the rising sun which is the first place on the island where the rising sun can be seen. Happy New Years!
I think that one of the biggest signs that winter is now here is how Diamond Head goes from a very dry brown color to a beautiful green color because of the rain. In the winter here there is much more rain during the day than in the other seasons and it especially rains at night as the north winds bring in the rain after sunset. To really appreciate this one must live here at least a year to see the subtle changes the mark the changing of the seasons.
This is my 21st Yamaha drum lesson at Fujisawa Yurindo. The posture and sound of the drumming movements seem to inspire me. Although it is different from the violin, I feel that there are actually some similarities between the two. (Violinist Michiko)
It’s a triple-tiered grave that can fit three urns vertically. My husband, Shuzo, and our beloved dog, Dolce, are buried there. And someday me. After I purchased it, the three-person section became popular and sold out. It’s always fun to visit a cemetery with a bright atmosphere. (Michiko)
January 6th is our wedding anniversary. There is a Christian church next to the back of my husband’s family home. The second photo also shows the Australian Reverend & Mrs. Kennedy. (Kyoto, Nakamura Shuzo & Michiko)
January 5th is the day when the world is about to switch from the New Year’s mood to everyday life. I went shopping for the first time this year. I bought a plate and three pairs of socks. (Michiko)
