These are beaded wallets. My mother made them for me when I was in elementary school. I also used this camera when I was in elementary school. I took it on school trips and field trips. All I have left now are the little things. (Michiko)
Moderate snacks at home cafe. I made a strong-tasting sherbet with honey, miso and shikuwasa juice. It went well with the canele. I eat sweet and cold things at home, but not too much. Compared to last year, my health check results showed that my cholesterol levels were just right. It’s important to keep this in mind. (Michiko)
As I always write, every week I make a small floral offering and visit the grave. That is what I’m looking forward to. At the same time, there are people who are happy about it. The staff members at the cemetery’s management office tell me with the smile face, “We always enjoy Nakamura-san’s cute decorations. And we tell visitors to the cemetery that this offering is so cute.” Not only do I enjoy it, but there are people who are happy in places. I can hear the applause that I can’t hear. That makes me happy too. On the way to the cemetery, I came across some brown leaves. It still shows its flavor. Getting older isn’t bad either, I thought. (Michiko)
Each Tuesday Bali has an early day from school and we go together to a local discount market to do shopping. This market is called Addison Road Community Centre. It’s great because it’s truly discounted produce and it’s simply a community service. We also get some free fruit and vegetables there. This place attracts lots of people from all over and we can easily fill many bags for under $50. There is a limit of one meat and one milk per person but otherwise we can buy whatever we like.
The hot days continue. I continue making sherbet. I used Okinawa Shikuwasa juice and honey and I created a new recipe. The topping is organic miso. I’m coming up with new ideas for grave decorations one after another. Part of the fun daily life. (Michiko)
The aquamarine ring I inherited from my mother-in-law Tomi-san, and the platinum ring around it is my wedding ring. I told Ichikawa Jewelry Store my idea and asked him to remake it into a design that would go with everyday clothes. Ichikawa-san put his heart into making this wonderful pendant head. Tomi-san and Shuzo-san, please protect me from heaven. (Michiko)
I like to surf YouTube on my computer and listen to music. Recently, my heart was grabbed by the performance of Norwegian cellist Truls Mork. This video shows Schumann’s Cello Concerto in A minor. It is a performance with depth and rich lyricism. (Michiko)
In Japanese calligraphy, I wrote the words “Standing water rots” in Kyoto dialect. The phrase “unchanging taste” has a deep meaning that others don’t understand. To continue doing something unchanging means to always be changing it. (Michiko)
This is the hair salon I go to once every four weeks. My hair is naturally curly, so they are doing the maintenance that I would expect. Thank you for always treating me so kindly. This is my favorite summer resort. (Michiko)
