ハワイアンに対する法律問題－悉く敗訴
ハワイアンの権利に翳り
 
　ハワイアンに対する「人種差別」を理由にした告訴は、カメハメハ・スクールの入学基準が初めてではない。
 
　実際現在でも、OHAやハワイアンに住宅を提供することを目的としているハワイアン・ホームランド局は特定の人種に恩典を与えている政府機関であり、アメリカ合衆国憲法違反であると主張する 「アラカキ対ハワイ州政府」 の裁判が続けられている。
 
　OHA－オフィス・オブ・ハワイアン・アフェアーズ－ハワイ原住民局は、一九七八年のハワイ州憲法会議で新設されることになり、一九八〇年発足した。ハワイアンの血を引く九人の理事が、ハワイアンであることが確認された５万４千人の投票で選出された。ハワイ州政府の部局として「ハワイアンの生活・文化などの改善」を目的とし、ヨーロッパ人との大掛かりな接触のきっかけとなったキャップテン・クックのハワイ到着の年、一七七八年にすでにハワイに住んでいた人の子孫をハワイ原住民とみなし、原住民のみが立候補・投票権を有すると同時に、OHAのサービスの恩典が受けられるとした。そのための資金は、アメリカ連邦政府が一時所有権を確保した元ハワイアン王朝の持つ土地で、現在はハワイ州政府が使っている土地からあがる収益の二〇％の提供を受け、OHAの運営やハワイ原住民への援助とすることになっている。 Continue reading →

数日前、週末いつも行く私の一番好きなphoのレストランに行きました。大好きです！オーナー達はとてもやさしくて、食べ物は私を幸せにさせます。その日、新しいテーブルの物と、メニューがちょっと違うのに気が付きました。しかし、知らない人が私の注文を取りに来るまで、何も奇妙だとは思いませんでした。新しいオーナーです！先週、前のオーナー達は店を売ることを私に教えてくれませんでした。かなしい。。。
 

A couple of days ago, I went to my favorite pho place that I go to every weekend.  I love this place!  The owners are really sweet, and their food makes me happy.  When I got there, I noticed that they had some new place settings and the menu was a little different, but I didn’t think anything of it until a stranger came to take my order.  There were new owners!  I was sad that the old owners hadn’t told me they were selling the place when I saw them last week.

　十八歳のバーニスと結婚し、三〇年の結婚生活はもとより、ハワイのリーダーの一人になっていたチャールス・ビショップ氏は妻の遺言に従い、カメハメハ・スクールの初代理事長として、一八八八年十二月 カメハメハ・スクール創立を宣言した中で、「妻バーニスの意思に従い、ハワイアンが生存競争の世界で生き残る機会を提供するため、ハワイアンの教育を優先する」 とし、一八九七年二月十一日付けの手紙では、「バーニス・ビショップ王女の遺言では 「白人の子弟の入学を拒否しているわけではない」 としながらも 「入学はハワイアンの血を持つ子弟に限ることを理事会で合意している」 とした。 Continue reading →

 
   Well i finally got my car in my name i got it fixed and now i getting to work in my own vehicle i now only need to get an appartment that should only take a couple of weeks so i doing pretty good.  Well that all that’s happing in my life.  Other that work of course which i’m getting about 50hrs a week.  Oh well the more money i make the sonner i can leave.

For Mother’s Day last year, my sister and I took a bunch of silly pictures to give to our mom, and this is one of them. Oscar is wearing a headband on his back, and the heart is made out of foam and is attached to the headband with red pipecleaners. Crafty!

When I was little we used to sing this weird little song when it rained. It’s raining, it’s pouring, the old man is snoring. He bumped his head, wet the bed, and couldn’t get up in the morning! It is nonesense, but has been in my head because it has been raining a lot recently. How much is a lot? In last Friday’s paper, it listed Punaluu with 22 inches of rain in two days. It was very dramatic. Mainly, the roads were closed, and we missed work. That is the frustrating part. Our house is safe and sound though and that is really all that matters. So many people had flooding in their yards and homes. Nature shows it’s power!
