三月に、大学の友人がペンシルベニアから訪ねてきます。楽しみにしています！一つだけ心配しています。私は食べることが好き、ハワイは沢山美味しい食べ物があるので、ふつう友達を色々なところに食べにつれて行きます。しかし、友人はグルテンにアレルギーがあります。醤油と酢はグルテンがあります！　：（

One of my college friends is coming to visit me in a couple of months, and I’m really excited!  I’m worried about one thing, though: usually, I like to take my friends on a food tour of Hawaii, because I love eating and we’ve got such yummy food.  However, my friend is allergic to gluten… which is usually in shoyu and vinegar!  Wah!

hello well i would like to say that i finally have a job i am only now waiting to go in to orientation so that i can finally get to work.  I can’t wait .  I will now be able to get my own apartment, fix my car, and go back to taking classes at night.  I love my family but living with them is driving me insane and i would like to finally be alone for more that 2 seconds.  I hope i can go to orientation this week so next week i can get a full week of work in.  Well ok that’s all that’s going on with me catch ya later Continue reading →

お母さんのバレーボールのぼうしの勝ったゲームを覚えていますか。しょうを選びながら、かわいくて、わくわくしていました。今、くだものの飲み物が四ケースありますが、飲みたくない。ざいあくかんを感じます！「いちご　メロン」という飲み物ですけど、ざいりょうは水とコーンシロップと梨しる。。。いちごとメロンがありません！しかし、ざいあくかん　－－　お母さんは可愛い！

Remember the volleyball-lampshade-hat game my mom won?  She chose some fruit drinks for her prize, and she was so excited and cute when she was deciding what to get.  Now we’ve got about four cases of these drinks in our house, and I feel really bad that I don’t want to drink them — they’re supposed to be strawberry-melon drinks, but the ingredient list goes like this: water, corn syrup, pear juice… there’s no strawberry or melon in there!  But I feel guilty — my mom was so cute!

Aloha!

While it is always nice to hear from Shuzo and Michiko they often have a challenge.  The challenges are not that severe and something that I can do and this posting is a response to thier challenge to help with the ever expanding Nagaya project.

For years I have seen Nacos continue to grow and change.  There seems to be something new each time we meet and visit with frined we have made from Nacos. It is not just about language but about sharing.  So what can I share?  A blog?  That too is something new, for me. I have resisted to join into blogging culture as the ever expanding technical world becomes almost too overwhelming with all the information.  However, all information is not for me and it is nice what we can find and share and learn from when we look into the digital world that surrounds us.

　こんにちは、鎌倉のMIKIです。今日はとても暖かく3月上旬の気候です。庭の梅の花も満開です。少しずつ春に近づいている事は実感しますが  まだまだ朝夕の冷え込みはきついです。

　常夏のハワイはいいですね、うらやましい限り、本当にハワイはパラダイスです。

　実は私、NACOSの第1期生ですが、残念ながら今は英語を使うチャンスもなく ほとんど忘れかけています。そこで皆さんご存じでしょうか？子供達が夢中になっている任天堂のゲームに大人の脳を鍛えるＤＳというシリーズがあって  その中の「英語漬け」というゲームに、実ははまっているのです。英単語書き取りや文章を聞いて書くのですが、少しずつレベルアップしています。 Continue reading →

インターネットの考えを試してみました。その考えは、百歩歩くごとに写真をとります。それに、新しいことに気が付きます。あいにく、二つ写真をとった後、カメラの電池がきれました！
 
I tried to do this thing I read about on the internet where you take a picture every 100 steps you take, so you can notice things that you would normally have passed by.  My camera’s batteries died after the first two pictures, though!

 だいどころ と あなどるなかれ だいどころ
　
  約４ヶ月かけて台所改造が終了した機会に感想をまとめると、与謝野晶子風に 「台所とあなどるなかれ 台所」 となりました （与謝野晶子さんには深謝）。

　台所改造を思い立った時点では、台所の位置や広さは変えず、流し、キャビネット、カウンター、オーブンといった中味を新しくするだけであるから、短期間に終了するものと軽く考えたというのが本当のところです（費用については、勿論、深く考えました）。 全ての食器や料理器具を運びだす作業はけっこうたいへんだと感じたのですが、これはほんの序の口でした。 Continue reading →

　日本を離れて、もう、30年になろうとしている。当時を思い起こすと、1973年、家内がハワイ大学に新設された「法律大学院」に行くことになった。「俺もアメリカに行かなければ、新婚早々別居」の瀬戸際に立たされた俺が、フルブライト委員会からフェローシップをやるから、アメリカの大学へ教えに行くようにという連絡を受け取ったときの嬉しさは、「これで、夫婦別々」 しなくても済む、という誤解に基づく思い込みだった。結局、家内はハワイ、俺は海の向こうの～日本からハワイよりも、もっと遠い～ マサチューセッツ州アムハーストに落ち着くことになった。

　１９７４年には、ハワイに移って、夫婦が再び合流すれば、当然の結果かもしれないが、１９７５年、長男の誕生となった。アメリカは家内が法律大学院を終わるまでの３年間と予定していたものの、息子の出現が、夫婦と子供一人の生活を、ハワイに定着させることになってしまった。娘が生まれ、四人家族となり、日本語を外人みたいに話す子供たちを見ながら、俺の墓はハワイに決まったな、と観念した次第。 Continue reading →
