Dr.Yoko Kelley

Back in the 808

I am back in Hawaii for a week, visiting friends. I am so happy to be back in the warm weather, it was snowing in Washington as I left. Of course I wanted to stop by and see Michiko and Shuzo, good times. However, of course as well, they were busy re-polishing my rusty Japanese. It is like working out, I don’t really enjoy it at first and it can even be a little painful, but after you get going you really enjoy it again. I hopefully will be returning to the fall for school. Aloha to all

Glad to be back

Hi everyone. I’ve had a complicated last few months and haven’t been able to post anything or even keep my lessons with Michiko, but I’m glad to say that I’m finally going to be able to get back to my lessons in May. I did do some traveling, both for work and vacation, and have some good pictures which I’ll share with you all soon.

Anyway, its great to be back and I’m catching up on everyone’s posts.

Recertification

At the restaurant every so often we need to be recertified and most recently we have been informed that we must study.   I’m worried, last time we studied the cards it was a lot of information to take in.  I’m not sure to what depth the will dig, but I think that I understand what is needed.  This test will make sure that we stay sharp.  I hope that maybe it’s just a scare tactic but I don’t think it is.  If we fail to pass our hours will be cut and it may lead to being fired.  I hate test I never perform up to standards.  I hope that I do well but I will have to study very hard over the next few days.

A Balanced Life

Compared to Japan, American children lead much more balanced lives. Or at least I hear. Japanese children are often pressured to study all the time because of difficult college exams, and thus lose out on all the other things life has to offer.Take me for example. I play sports, read, do community service, and next year, I plan to get involved in drama/theater. I used to play the ukulele and the piano. I get to hang out with my friends during school and on the weekends. I’ve had my fair share of relationships, good and bad. I’ve learned to talk to people. I believe these things are more important than sitting around in a library all day wasting away. So when I become an adult, I will be ready for the real life ahead of me.
