Sushi and Hamachi

In addition to shabushabu, I love to eat sushi. Recently I have loved eating Hamachi. Now I do not look at eating spicy tuna rolls, or any kind of rolls. I just want to eat hamachi. As soon as we get to the Japanese restaurant, I order 2 orders, to start. Probably by the end of the meal, i will get one more order of Hamachi sushi. The last time we went to a Japanese restaurant, I order Hamachi sushi, Hamachi sashimi, and a steamed Hamachi dish. It was a little out of control, but when I see so many Hamachi dishes, its hard to choose just one. I only realize the damage when the bill comes.

I think the best Hamachi sushi I have had was in California. It was really fresh there and it was really cheap. I think all together my family had 12 orders of Hamachi sushi. One restaurant we went to, we ordered so much Hamachi that they ran out. We heard the waiter next to us telling the other table that they were out of Hamachi for the night.

If there is no Hamachi sushi, then sometimes I will eat salmon or ahi, but not a lot. I would rather eat the vegetable side dishes, or some kind of butterfish.

そう簡単には去りません!

と言っているのは冬です。

うららかな日が続いたので、このまま春にすべりこみか?の期待は見事にはずれ、今朝、カーテンを開けると外は一面の雪景色です。

From Kansas

I really hate hearing all of this earthquake news in Japan.  I don’t know what cities are on what islands.

My internet was specially made for the blind.  It uses the keyboard with special commands to use instead of the mouse.  I am learning all of this by listening.  It takes awhile to learn email alone, let alone all of the other things like web cites, etc.  I haven’t use a computer in 15 yrs.  I only get to use my computer 15 min. a day.  Next weekI plan on trying to learn a couple of Windows programs.

Leslie is a Freshman and I still home school her as well as my 2 grandsons.  Then Steve and I have a feeding ministry where we feed people in need five nights a week.  Started out 2 yrs. ago with us feeding about fifteen people.  We had around fifty volunteers helping by the end of the year and was feeding about 80 every night.  Now we have 150 vollunteers and are feeding 150 people every night.  Steve still ships Bibles and is a pastor.  Getting food takes a lot of time by itself.

We are very busy.  We still have damage on our house that needs repair from a tornado almost 3 years ago.  We also have some college students coming to volunteer to build an addition on our church.  They will be here at the end of the month.  So much to do and so little time to do it in.

Love from my family to yours.

Boxing in Iceland

Iceland as we know it is a beautiful, but cold country. Little does the world know, the country boast some of the best up and coming amateur boxers this world is yet to see. I’m proud to say I had a hand in getting it all started there. I was stationed in Iceland in the early 90’s and began a boxing program at a local gymnasium. Word spread throughout the capital city of Reykyavik there was an American coach teaching boxing. Soon I was training up to 20 kids and adults at one point. I got to be so known I was summond by the former Icelandic powerlifting champ, Hyulti Arnesson, The Bear, to help him train for a toughman competition he was to enter in Las Vegas. I was a mere 175 lbs. The Bear stood 6’1″, 325lbs. But with my experience he was to learn you can’t be big and expect to manhandle even the smallest guy. As we danced around the ring in preperation for the fist to fly I talked to The Bear while I was showing him my footwork. Telling him the finer points of defense. Well, he didn’t take my advice until after the second time I splatter his blood from his nose all over his face. I gained the respect of The Bear as well as all the reporters, children and athletes that had been in the gym to witness their champion train. How could this scrawny, American coach come to their country and teach their mighty hero a lesson. Soon I was in celebrity status in Iceland. It seemed as though everyone in town knew who I was. That’s just one of the many reasons I loved Iceland so much.

Hike on Mariner’s Ridge

Mariner’s Ridge is in Hawaii Kai.  There is a trail at the end of the road between the houses.  Most of the locals only know of this since it is not a publicly known trail.  But it has a very beautiful view of Koko Head Crater and the other side of the ridge which is Waimanalo.

When we go there, we allow at least 2 1/2 hours,(1 1/2 up, 1/2 rest or lunch and 1/2 down.  We like to bring musubi, fried chicken  and tsukemono.  We also bring semi frozen drinks and ice cubes in our backpack to keep our backs cool as we hike, it melts and we can drink ice cold water.

It is a pretty easy hike except for the last part up to the ridge gets a little steep and slippery because of the pine needles that are on the ground.  We took my cousin’s grandmother  from Japan up there. And I was surprised cause she didn’t tire and kept up with us , I was out of breath.  Once on top, you’re looking down the very steep mountain range  on the other side.  The air is fresh and a little thin because of the elevation.

I used to take up visitors to have a nice view from on top, quite different from looking at the city below, more forest, nice tall Pine trees, wild guavas and flowers.  It’s been about 5 years since I’ve been there, and  have many fond memories of taking family and friends up there.
