母が送ってくれた習字のお手本が到着。屏風たたみの本は片面４２ページずつ、合計８４ページ。婦女界新年号付録とあり、書き方の見本は昭和９年（１９３４）の日付があります。 最初に、指導の先生の言葉で、正しい姿勢と不断の練習が大切であると書いてあり、思わず姿勢をただしました。 年賀状の例文のひとつは、留守宅よりの年始状の返事の書き方で、「主人利男こと. . . . 目下スイスに滞在中でございますが、風光明媚なジュネーブで新年を迎へます. . . . 」。７０年以上も昔に？と驚きます。漢字は全て振り仮名つきです。 同封の手紙に、母は「毎年、年賀状を書く時期になると取り出して一寸稽古したものです」とつけくわえています。前回、帰国のときに、母の本箱に見つけた「裁縫備忘録」という本は大正１０年（１９２０）発行で高等女学校での教科書でした。 紙が貴重であった時代がしのばれます。
