  プリンターの調子が悪くなったので、修理屋さんに運んだ帰路、東洋食品を売る店に寄りました。

　入り口近くの新鮮野菜の売り場に置いてある菓子パンの包装紙は Korean のハングル文字の名前が印刷してありましたが、色、大きさ、からみて、どうもアンパンらしいので、はずれてもともとと２個買いました。
 
　帰宅してさっそくかぶりつて見ると、「でかした！」 アンパンでそれも小豆餡がぎっしり。シカゴから空輸されたもので、いかんせん、ぷっくり丸い形は望めませんが、味は上々。今後、アンパンが食べたくなったら、あのお店に直行しよう。 Continue reading →

  「それでは、１８日にお会いするのを楽しみにしています」と典子さんと電話で話し終えると、勤務の後わざわざ天神まで出てきてもらって申し訳ないと思うと同時に、ブログの写真だけを頼りに人に会うなんてことはめったにないチャンスだとおおいに期待しました。

　約束の場所で待っていると、もう一人女性がそばに立ってやはり人を待っています。「典子さんとぜんぜん似てないなー」と思いつつも、約束の時間ではあることだしと、思い切って声をかけると、やっぱり典子さんではなくて、妙に安心しました。

　そうこうするうちに 「これは、典子さんにちがいない」と確信のもてる女性がやってきて、旧友に再会するようにさーと会話に入っていけたのは、なんとも説明できない不思議なことです。ちなみに、実物の典子さんはブログの写真とぜんぜん似ていないことを付け加えておきます。 Continue reading →

Last week, I traveled from Nebraska to Fukuoka Japan and back, passing 9 airports altogether. I found that most of these airports were pretty agreeable, but LA airport was something else.

First, they let you walk a very long distance from the international terminal to the domestic one.You don’t have to worry that you missed the day’s exercise because of long flight home. But, that’s just the beginning. When you go through the security checkpoint, you may think you are in some kind of festivals. A CROWD ! (Remember? I live in Nebraska). Then, you proceed to the waiting area. More people.You can hardly pass each other. There was an announcement that planes were delayed due to thick fog. But, judging from people’s behavior, this congestion seemed nothing special but daily occurrence.

Controlled chaos 管理された無秩序、表面上は秩序が無いように見えるが、よーく観察すると結構、統制がとれている、というのが、ロサンゼルス空港を通過しての感想です。

先週のネブラスカ福岡間の往復の旅では、計９つの空港を通過しました。だいたいどの空港も可もなく不可もなくといったところでしたが、ロサンゼルス空港だけは違いました。

国際線のターミナルから国内線のターミナルへの徒歩での移動は運動不足をただちに解消するほどの距離で、国内線ターミナルに到着した時はほっとしたのですが、実はその後が難関で、例の靴を脱ぎ上着を脱ぎの検閲場は人波であふれんばかり。そこをなんとか通過して、待合室に着くと、人波は少なくなるどころか、すれ違うのもやっとといった状態。濃霧の為に到着便が遅れているとの説明でしたが、雰囲気から判断すると、待ち合い室の混雑ぶりはこの日に限ったことではなさそうです。

Yesterday’s high was 57 Fahrenheit, which was the low in the day before, and the humidity was in the 30s.It worked lika a charm ("tekimen" was thus translated in my disctionary). I feel my face is drier than "Dead Sea Scroll", though I don’t know if the description is correct. This feeling cannot be explained by five senses of vision, hearing, smelling, taste and touch,and the six sense if you have. Therefore, I here propose the seventh sense. The name, "Dead Sea Scroll" sense doesn’t seem right. Can you think any better name?

　昨日の最高温度は一昨日の最低温度と同じ華氏５７度（摂氏１２度）で湿度は３０度台。 すると、テキメン、ヌヌッ、きょうはお肌がパリパリッ． サイナイ半島でみつかった「死海の巻物」よりもずっと乾燥しているのではないか （よく知りませんが）。 この感覚は、視覚 聴覚 嗅覚 味覚 触覚の五感に霊感を加えた６つの感覚だけで説明できません。 故に、あえて、第７の感覚を提案しますが、[死海の巻物]感覚ではパットしません。もっと良い呼称を広く募集します。 Continue reading →

I saw cleverly-designed shelves to store painting at one of art galleries in Omaha.  They use ropes to divide spaces.  I suggested Norman to install a similar storage.  So, he asked his friend Bo, who is also an artist, to build the shelves in his studio.  Bo’s wife Erin visited while he was doing carpentry work.

The HotShops Art Center was founded in 1999 by 4 artists who create artworks of metals, glass, tiles and clay.  In other words, these artists work on fire, thus, the name of hot shops came about.  The art center consists of many art studios and galleries and occupies several buildings of a former mattress company in downtown Omaha.  Currently, over 70 artists have their own studios in the building. My husband who paints and sculptures is very happy that he has recently moved into one of studios.  I help him to transfer art supplies from our storage into the studio. 　歩く運動を始めて約一ヶ月経ちました。９月中は、気温が上がる前の早朝に済ませようと気忙しかったのですが、涼しくなった昨今は時間に追われることもなく、そのうえ黄葉、紅葉が眼を楽しませてくれます。 先日、病院で「ストレステスト」を受けました。これは３ヶ月前にたまたま、心電図上の異常が見つかったための追跡検査ですが、テストにはトレッドミルも含まれていました。１５年ほど前にトレッドミルのテストを受けたことがありますが、短時間に脚がくたびれた経験があり、今回も自信がなかったのですが、意外にもテストを完了することが出来ました� Continue reading →

These photos were taken at the Omaha Botanical Garden called "Lauritzen Gardens", situated at the eastend of Omaha right by Missouri River.  Because the transcontinental railroad expanding from the eastern US chose to come to Omaha, crossing the river from Iowa, two large locomotives are exhibited permanently on the garden ground.

  朝まだ涼しい内に家の近辺を歩くことを始めて一週間過ちました。２，３日続けばおんの字と、自己信頼はまったくしていなかったので、少々驚いています。まずは、私の歩行ルートをご覧いただきます。

  これまで、運動といえるものは、我流の屈伸運動ぐらいで済ませていたのですが、春頃、オマハのあちこちのアパートの下見をやっていた際、どのアパートにも設備の完備したジムが付属しているのに気付き、「そろそろ真面目にやらねば」と夫と顔を見合わせたことでした。  ９月に入ると、内陸性気候の特徴で急に涼しくなり、暑さを、運動しない口実に使えなくなりました。おそらくこれが潮時ならんと、手軽な歩くことから始めま した。運の良いことに、ナコスのブログでMarikoKounoさんが足腰運動の重要性を数字を挙げて説明していらしゃるのを読み、おおいに励まされまし た。願わくば、歩行で下地を作っておいて、ネブラスカ名物の雪が飛び、気温が零下になる頃には、ジムで各種の器具を使いこなせるようになりたいものです。 Continue reading →
