There are various tests to undergo before being admitted to the hospital. I also had to go through the process of preoperative autologous blood donation—collecting and storing my own blood for potential use during surgery. At the hospital, I’d confess my fears to the doctors and nurses, and in between tests, I’d treat myself to some shopping, lunch and dinner at a cafe to lift my spirits.
