如月（きさらぎ） is an old name for february.

　以前は３月がお天気の変わり易い月でしたが、今や２月にお株を奪われてしまったようです。今朝は庭先には雪なれど温度はするすると華氏６０度（接氏２０度）を超えました。それではと車庫内で冬越しの植物達を外に出して日光浴をさせることに。しかし、雪を見ながらの日光浴はやはり変ですね。

It used to be March that is the month of changeable weather. Now, February seems to have supplanted it. This morning, while the ground is covered by snow, the temperature rose quickly exceeding 60C. I brought plants, spending the winter in our garage、 outdoors. Sun bathing surrounded by snow! It’s certainly a strange sight.



先日、修三さんが京言葉「かったるい」を使っておられました。わたしも２つの方言を使ってみました。２月初めは零下２７、８度の「しばれる」寒さでしたが、暖かい今日はどこもここも雪融けで「しるしい」。「しばれる」は東北弁でかじかむような寒さをいい、「しるしい」は九州弁で湿っぽい状態をいうと思いますが、過っていたら直して下さい。

THe other day, Shuzo san used a Kyoto expression “Kattarui.” I try using two other dialects in order to give better meaning to sentences. It was 27 or 28 below zero or “shibareru” cold early February. Today, it is so warm、 and snow is melting everywhere, making “shirushii.”My understanding is that “shibareru” is spoken in the Northeast Japan where it can get very cold, while “shirushii” is spoken in Kyushu in South meaning things and places are wet. I hope it is correct.
