冷房を消し虫の音にすずむ夜

れいぼう を　けし むし の ね に　すずむ よる

八月も後半になりましたが、南日本はまだまだ残暑がきびしいです。
今は夜。相変わらず暑いなあと思いながらクーラーを付けていましたが、
ふと気付くと外で、鈴虫やキリギリスなど、秋の虫が鳴いています。
クーラーを消し、テレビも消して静かな夜に響く虫の声に耳を傾けると、鈴のような音が心地よく涼しげです。

「すずむ」は「涼む」と「鈴虫」にかけました。

without A/C



It’s the latter half of August, but the midsummer heat is still sweltering in the south of Japan. Now it is night. As usual, I think only of how hot it is and have the A/C running. All of a sudden, I notice crickets, grasshoppers, and all sorts of other autumn insects buzzing outside. I discover how comforting and soothing it is to turn the A/C and the TV off and listen to the drolling sound of the insects in the quiet of the night.
The word 「すずむ」 is a play on 「涼む」 and 「鈴虫」.
