On the weekend I took a drive around Oahu Island. It was wonderful. I noticed that there are many different sub-cultures that are almost as different as little countries with in Oahu, depending on the area. There is the bustling tourist and inner city area of Honolulu/waikiki, a more affluent Hawaii Kai area that is a mostly white and Japanese, I believe, and then the ruggered cliffs and eventually we arrived at a very Hawaiian Waiamanelo. From there we went through Kailua, and then through Kaneohe, which I loved, as it seemed to be a melting pot of people from all backgrounds and down to earth but beautiful. We travelled on up the highway through a lovely farming area, before we reached the north shore, famous for big waves and surfers. After that we travelled through the centre of Oahu, and arrived on the Leeward. After a bit more driving west we arrived on the Waianae Coast. Inspite of all the beauty and interesting places I was so happy to arrive home. I have surely found the perfect place for me in Makaha!
