ハートと柊の刺繍

12月になりました。少しずつクリスマス気分です。

刺繍でミニハートとヒイラギの葉っぱを作りました。

It’s December. It’s starting to feel like Christmas little by little. I made mini hearts and holly leaves with embroidery.

our Magic Island

アラモアナ誰でも遊ぶ憩いの場

アラモアナ　だれでもあそぶ　いこいのば

Next to the beginning of Waikiki is an area called Magic Island. It looks like an island from the airplane which is one reason it is called Magic Island. It actually is not an island at all but a part of Ala Moana Park. It offers a beautiful beach and a very large area for picnics and is used by people jogging, riding their bikes and also for people taking a leisurely walk. The whole park was supposed to be a resort and in 1964 the Construction company put up the breaker wall, filled in the reef to make the pool area and also put in the beach. The plan was to put in a very large hotel along with condominiums but the investors pulled out and the company went out of business and so the City and County of Honolulu bought all the land and now it is the biggest park on the south side of Oahu, right next to Waikiki.

　海辺の公園のお話です。ワイキキに続く海側にマジックアイランドと言う遊び場があります。飛行機から見ると島のような形ですが、実際は島ではありません。アラモアナビーチパーク内にある海へ突き出るように作られた人工の島です。綺麗なビーチと、ピクニックが出来る広い敷地があります。そこでジョギングをしたり自転車に乗ったり、ゆったり散歩を楽しむ人々がいます。実は、アラモアナビーチパークとマジックアイランドの公園全体は、もとの計画ではリゾートホテルを作る予定でした。１９６４年に、建設会社が防波堤を作り、サンゴ礁を埋め立て、そこに水泳プールのエリアを設置しました。当初は大きなホテルとコンドミニアムを建設する計画でした。しかし、投資家達が手を引いて建設会社が潰れてしまいました。そんな訳で、もとの計画は変更され、ホノルル市が土地を全て買い取りました。今ではワイキキに隣接するオアフ島の南の方面の一番大きい公園になりました。

白旗神社でマルシェ

白旗神社のミニマーケットへ行ってきました。お買い物をして鈴木宮司さんと境内でおしゃべり。宮司さんは神職のみならず藤沢に活気を注ぐお人柄です。今後の「白旗神社でマルシェ」開催は奇数月の第4日曜日。楽しみです。（中村美智子）

I went to the mini market at Shirahata-jinja Shrine. I enjoyed shopping and chatting with Chief Priest Suzuki-san. He is not only a Shinto priest, but also a person who brings vitality to Fujisawa. “Marche at Shirahata-jinja Shrine” is held on the fourth Sunday of odd-numbered months.

Palさんのいとこ来訪

ニューヨークに住んでいるキショールさんのいとこご夫妻が新婚旅行で日本へ来ました。今日は藤沢に会いに来てくれました。素敵な秋の一日でした。

Kishore-san’s cousin who lives in New York got married and visiting Japan for their honeymoon. Today, they came to Fujisawa to see me. It was a beautiful autumn day.

富士山の見えるお墓

今日のお墓参りは澄み渡る青空です。

お墓から西の方に綺麗な雪の富士山が見えます。

A clear blue sky was spreading when I visited the grave today, so I was able to see the beautiful snow-capped Mt. Fuji to the west from the grave. I’m thankful.
