春の雪ジュンコの予報的中す

はる の ゆき　ジュンコ の よほう　てきちゅうす

I am little confused now, weather wise. Weather patterns change so frequently and drastically, warm spring temperature a few days followed by snow with gusty wind. Juncos seem to take this nothing special.  Thus, I rely on the behavior of juncos for weather changes, and devised the junco index. As long as you see juncos in feeders, winter is surely not ended yet.

The junco index consists of four indices as follows.

Junco index 0: no junco is present at feeders, a. k. a. spring 

Junco index 1: a few junco present, cold spell possible

Junco index 2: a lot of junco present, snow possible

Junco index 3: juncos flying in snow, snow storm

　くるくる変わる天候に混乱気味の今日この頃、私が頼りにしているのは小鳥のジュンコ（和名ユキヒメドリ）です。３月第１週、春を思わせる暖かい陽気の２、３日後に突風混じりの雪が降りましたが、ジュンコは変わった様子もなくえさ場に飛んで来ました。ジュンコの行動から天候の変化を予想するので、名付けて、ジュンコ インデックス。このインデックスは下記の４項目からなります。ジュンコをえさ場に見る限り冬は終わっていないと言えます。

ジュンコ　インデックス１：少数のジュンコ　寒くなる可能性　

ジュンコ　インデックス２：多数のジュンコ　雪の可能性

ジュンコ　インデックス３：雪の中にジュンコ　吹雪
