Collaborative Haiku Poem – 吹雪と小鳥

wild birds

ride on wind

enjoying a snow storm

風に乗り吹雪楽しむ小鳥かな

かぜ に のり　ふぶき たのしむ　ことり かな

When strong wind is added to falling snow, it becomes a snow storm and a visibility is near zero.  Unlike humans who struggle in a white-out condition, birds ride on wind, as if they can flutter less to come to feeders.  Truth may not be as simple as it looks, as birds need a lot of experience and skills. But they look like they are enjoying the snow storm. Along with snowstorms, air temperature remained minus (-17.78 C) for a few days. I was impressed that wild birds handled low temperature very well and came to feeders every day.

　降る雪に強風が加わると吹雪となり、一寸先は闇ならぬ白壁で視界ゼロになります。ところが人間と違って鳥達はうまい具合に風を利用、あまり羽ばたきをせず風に乗ってえさ場にやってきます。実際は見るほど簡単ではなく多くの経験と熟練を要するでしょうが、その様子はまるで吹雪を楽しんでいるかの如くです。吹雪に加えて1月１４日から一週間ほどマイナスの気温（摂氏マイナス17度からマイナス31度の間）が続きましたが、低温と地上の積雪にもかかわらず小鳥は毎朝えさ場にやって来るのにも感心しました。
