Our almost hurricane

In Hawaii we are very fortunate for the fact that we have hurricanes only every 20 years or so. Just 2 weeks ago there were two hurricanes heading our way and it looked like our turn had finally come. There were many news programs dealing with the soon to arrive hurricanes and all precautions were taken. The Honolulu harbor was closed on the day that the hurricane was supposed to have arrived and many stores and businesses such as the Ala Moana shopping center were closed. Atlantis submarine closed the operations for 2 days and tied up all the boats and submarines for the possible hurricane.
All the stores sold out of water, batteries and many food items. Every night on the news there were scenes of the long lines at the super markets and gas stations. As it has often happened in the past, a few days before the first hurricane was due to arrive it weakened into a tropical storm. It first hit the island of Hawaii where there was a lot of damage from falling trees and some flooding. The agricultural sector was hit fairly hard and the Governor declared it a disaster which means the people affected can get financial aid from the government. Because of the mountain ranges on the island of Hawaii the storm was pretty much done and by the time it came to Oahu there was about a half day of rain and some wind but that was it. Fortunately the following hurricane went North of us and never caused any problems.
The storm caused hot and muggy weather for a few days and now the stores were even busier with people trying to return all of the items they had purchased for the storm! While all of this was going on, there was a small amount of news coverage about the 12th hurricane to hit Japan this year!
