Himalayan Adventure

I was very fortunate to end up in Nepal last year. I will never forget my experience of the country and I am looking forward to returning again and again. During my time in Nepal I decided it would not be complete without an experience of the world’s largest mountain range. So my friend and I ventured off with not enough experience mentally or physically and for the few days we were there we truly had the experience of a lifetime. People warned us that the rainy season had just set in and it was far from the ideal time to venture out but that did not hold us back. We started our adventure in the Himalayas from a couple of miles up the mountain and caught a ride in a jeep to a small village with tea houses that offered bed and food for about $5 a night for two. From inside my bedroom window I was awe struck at the gorgeous views and the unfamiliar sounds as herds of donkeys moved passed carrying items around from village to village led by a young village boy. Everything from what we ate, to what slept in and what we used was hand pick, hand made and from the most natural ingredience as the people lived off the land entirely. Money was not really available and the economy was truly prehistoric barter style. The beauty of the place overwhelmed me and even though our experience was difficult and the tracks were hard going and made for seasoned hikers alone, taking me all day to reach the next village, and the leeches were in full force due to the rainy season, I felt like a clumsy unfit westerner , spoilt and lazy from being saturated with modern conveniences and luxuries. But at the same time I was awestruck by the magic experience of being transported into the depths of another world and another time. Immersed in a natural wonderland of overwhelming natural beauty. Intimidated by The atmosphere and the power of the mountains that were so intense and buzzed with the sounds and scents and energy of the worlds largest mountains. By at the same time so inspired and moved to have the opportunity to be a witness to the majesty of the mountains that only experience can truly reveal and photos and stories like mine can give a tiny insight into, in hope that you too might be moved to explore for yourself the fascination of this most amazing land of the Himalayas.
