Medical Insurance in Japan

I have translated the story that Umi san wrote two days ago.

Almost every Japanese citizen is protected from high medical expenses because of the country’s medical insurance. Through this insurance, the highest anyone would have to pay would be 30% of the total expenses. For example, 3,000 yen would be the full personal contribution towards a 10,000 yen bill. Also, if expenses climb above 100,000 yen, the portion that you owe can become even smaller thanks to the high medical fee system. For example, a fee as high as a million yen would still result in a personal contribution of only 87,000 yen.

I work as a speech therapist at a hospital, and employees here receive free medical treatment. The parents, spouses and children only have to pay half price.

I’ve heard that in America, not everyone can enroll in medical insurance, medical expenses are very high, and the personal contribution is also high. Even though there are a lot of problems with the Japanese health care system, I feel luck to have it when I hear such stories.
