Prize egg found
forgotten and refound
freed baby gecko.

When I was 5 years old, I used to play in the park next to my house. One day, I found a baby egg the size of an eraser on a pencil. It was wedged into a small crack in the tree’s trunk. This huge banyan tree was in the park next to my house. The egg was pretty and a pretty white color, too. I made a box 3”/2” with a cover. I cut a window in the cover and glued Saran wrap over it so I could see the egg. I made 2 little holes for air. And I cut some nice soft grass to line the bottom so the egg could rest on it. I placed it under my bed, and like all little children I forgot about it for a couple of weeks. One day I was looking under my bed and came across the box I had forgotten all about. But when I looked inside the egg had hatched. There was a tiny 1” grey baby lizard. I felt so bad for forgetting about the egg. He looked skinny and weak. Feeling sorry for the little fella, I took him outside in back of our house and released him into some nice grass. Surely he could find some thing to eat. I have never taken eggs from it’s nest since then! I learned to leave it alone, just the way they are. And I feel a kinship to all little lizards.
