Let me explain briefly what a senryuu is.

While haiku are typically written about nature, senryuu concern the thoughts and feelings of human beings. When writing senryuu, the goal is to enjoy oneself and entertain others. Finally, the senryuu is an unpunctuated form. If there are twenty or fewer characters and the rhythm is good, the poem works.

Let me stop here and pull out some of my old senryuu to share.

This daffodil
is just now blooming
like I am.

(“Daffodil” is my nom de plume when I write calligraphy.)

Good words
all-you-can-eat
that’s me.

The new year-
unbridled resolutions
and clean screens.

That’s all for today.
Take care, everyone.
