Why I love Rock

Why do I love Rock music? It’s actually difficult to say really. I love all genres of music, nothing is off limits. If I had to narrow it down to one thing about rock, okay maybe two things I like about it. One, is a common answer for most people, I love the way it makes me feel. And Two, I love when guitarist rip into awesome solos. In my opinion you can’t have an awesome rock song without one.

I know what you mean about the guitar solos. For my money, David Gilmour’s solo in Pink Floyd’s Time is hard to beat. Unlike today’s shredders, Gilmour plays much fewer notes, but with incredible control. The long, slow bends and the harmonics he gets right on the edge of distortion show his mastery to full effect. He’s the type of player that makes non-players want to rush out and buy a guitar, and people who already play want to sell their guitar because they know they’ll never approach his expertise. Ahhh… time to crank up the iPod.

Unfortunately, though I do love Pink Floyd, I’ve never remembered any of the song titles except for “Lost for words” so I had to YouTube your favorite here. And I have to admit, I had to soak it in a bit, I have become quite the fan of the powerful quick solos. Or the ones with an awesome build up to speed. What always comes to mind for me is Zakk Wylde’s solo on “No more tears”. Zakk’s helped fill the void for me in the absence of the late great Dimebag. Thanks for sharing man.
