Kanzashi Shopping

When I was 8yrs old, the biggest treat I had was going Downtown to shop at Iida’s for Kanzashi.  My neighbors and I would go together, mostly because they had some shopping to do. My play friend and I would tag along and since we didn’t have much money, we would just window shop.  Of course,  the square box display of Kanzashi always caught our eye.  Every now and then there’d be a new one added and others were sold out and we would be so sad because we weren’t able to save enough money before this happened.  And when we were lucky, we were able to buy the prettiest one before it got sold.  I remember a $5 one which I got!  It took 2-3 weeks of saving and doing chores.  It was a big Chrysanthimum flower with folded silk petals and had 5 hanging vines with tiny flowers on them.  It also had 21 reflective dangling silver panels under the flower and vines.  I used to wear it to school on special occassions.  It was fun peering through the vines and looking at my friends, then  flick my head and watch it swing the other way.  And as girls would, we would compare and see, who had the nicest one.
