Welcoming Ryo to Hawaii

This past thursday, after my class with Michiko and Shuzo, I took a Nacos student(Ryo Hattori) from Japan and showed him a little bit around Hawaii. Before we went out I brought some lunch to introduce him to some of my favorite foods in Hawaii, such as garlic chicken from Mitsukens and Malasadas from Leonards. After lunch I took him to the University of Hawaii, my alma mater because he was interested in attending a foreign university in the future. I think he was suprised to see the diversity of the people that attend college here since Hawaii is made up of so many different cultures. Another observation he made was that Hawaii has so much lush vegetation. Where Ryo comes from, he noted that Yokohama is mostly concrete. After our little excursion to UH we played a little tennis in Manoa. Since I’m an old man now, my stamina is not that great and I had a hard time keeping up with Ryo, who is a very good player. In any case, I hope you’re having fun in Hawaii, Ryo!
